Ran across a new 5.0 Mustang today
I don't know if it was a 2011 or 2012, but it was definitely a 5.0 GT, which from what I see online, is rated at 415HP. We were doing a little cat & mouse thing for a bit, then both hit it from about a 70mph roll. I pulled 2 car lengths ahead within a few seconds, and increased to about 4-5 car lengths by 130. I let off at that point -- he may have let off earlier, I can't be sure.
Not bad for a 21 year old car. =D>

Re: Ran across a new 5.0 Mustang today
I don't normally street race, but a couple of Memorial Days ago I was sitting at a stop light with a 5.0 mousetang GT vert next to me. I wasn't thinking race, but when the light turned green this stang took off burning rubber. Well, he was about a car length ahead of me and I hit the warp speed button, and she took off. I passed him in second and beat him to the on-ramp about a quarter mile down the road. I slowed on the freeway and he passed me with the thumbs-up sign.
I think we have the GT's beat. It's the Shelby's I am not sure about. Never had the oportunity to try one.

Re: Ran across a new 5.0 Mustang today
I have a 2012 5-oh with a six speed & 3.55's. I think the stang would be faster to 100 from a dig because it hooks up so much better and the MT-82 trans is really close ratio. Also hard to beat VVT.
over 90-100 mph and the LT5 is going to kill it. Partly on the aero and 100 lb weight advantage of the C4, and partly displacement difference. I'm also locked to a ceiling of about 350 rwhp due to no headers, but the LT5 does feel faster at certain speeds. Other speeds the mustang seems quicker. Most definitely the mustang peaks at a higher rpm 6400 vs 6000. I really do need headers to get the extended range, but any way you slice it, these Coyote cars are 12.90 rides. |

Re: Ran across a new 5.0 Mustang today
In my TBSS once from a rolling 30 mph rattling start with a mustang whose rear bumper I hadn't seen my LS2 with 4:10 which is normally pretty quick was by 110 mph when we had to slow about a half a block behind the Mustang which by then I could see had the word "Saleen" on the back bumper. I did not know then but that's a v8 with a supercharger on it and he could haul. Should have had a 2012 ZR-1 with 638 hp for him. Now, I look at rear bumpers before doing that. My 1991 zr1 is faster than the TBSS by the way as you would expect due to the weight even though it's 3.45 to 1 rear end instead of 4.10.
