Default Cool as a cucumber

Just a Kudos for Marc. Put his chip in at BG. I was stuck in traffic this weekend at motorcycle week in Loudon NH and the temp gause stayed cool as a cucumber. Prior to Marc's chip I would have pulled over to let it cool down. I don't know if that really would have been nessasary, but I sure would have been worried. Thanks Marc. - Steve

Running the A/C?

Mine pushes the hash marks when the outside temp is 100+ and I am running the A/C in stop-n-go traffic. With no A/C on runs between half and 3/4 on the temp gauge.

Without A/C. Running down the road I run about 1/2 gauge. Idleing down my dirt drive I would be pushing the hash marks. Now the gauge barely goes above the 1/2 mark. They tell me running A/C forces both fans on. A/C certainly adds heat to the system, but with both fans on it's suppose to remove more than it adds. I still like not having to worry about temps. Outside temp was about 80. - Steve

A/C on in 5th is best heat reduction combo regardless of slow traffic or highway speeds.
The only thing a chip mod can do is kick in the single fan earlier.
A/C on means both fans are on.

Other known counter measures are:
1. lower temp thermostat (just prolongs overheating)
2. swap out the stock radiator

Marc's chip lowers the temp when the fan comes on (on at 205, off at 200) and turns them both on at the same time. I think the stock setting is 230 first fan, 240 second fan. I ASSUME that the temps I was seeing was normal, but scary hot. I suspect it was just where GM turned on the fans. Made me nervous, I like the new settings. Certainly if you are having real overheating problems this won't fix it. - Steve

I agree with the kudos for Marc's program! It was the most useful thing I bought for my car save for good tires & brakes. I even pass NYS emission's testing with it!

Ditto for me! With Marc's chip my '90 always runs cooler than it did before. What's more, the car just runs better in lots of ways, and returning to idle on stopping is now a "joy" for lack of a better adjective. Thanks Marc!
