Im a huge horror/scifi movie fan. Oct 14th A remake of John Carpenters The Thing opens at theaters. After viewing the trailors I can already tell it sucks and full of the same old CG that's been in every horror movie in the last 10 years yawn.
John Carpenter is a master and took the original 1950's version and made it better and far more intense and this was long before CG when you had to be incredibly talented to make the effects and creatures look real. And he had a great cast Kurt Russell Wilford Brimley ect. The 1982 version was so Damn good. My uncle took me took see it and I had to change my drawers 3 times while watching it on the big screen. If its not at least as good or better than the last one it shouldn't be made. As you may know this one is suppose to be a prequel, showing what happened to the Norwegian team that dug it out of the ice. That was prior to the American team having the Husky run into their camp at the beginning of the movie with the Norwegians trying to kill it.

Overall I enjoyed both the original with James Arness as the Thing, and the remake with Kurt Russell. I doubt this one will be as good because the director is no John Carpenter. Just the musical score alone made his special and suspenseful, which this one will not have. I will likely see it if the reviews are halfway decent. I'd hate to think it will be as bad as stinkers like the War of the Worlds or The Day The Earth Stood Still remakes.

I wish they'd stop making prequels. Isn't that where they were suppose to start anyways? My wife is more of a scifi freak then I'll ever be. She even asked me if I wanted to go to a Startrek convention. Does that mean I have to dress up as chubbaka? Honestly the last decent movie we went to see was 300 at the Edwards IMax. Saw Cowboys and Aliens which was basically Independence day 1700's style. I'll probably go see The Thing but don't have any great expectations that's for sure.
