Default NBC Sports To Feature ALMS Season Closer at Laguna Seca

NBC SPORTS TO FEATURE AMERICAN LE MANS SERIES SEASON CLOSER AT LAGUNA SECA

Braselton, GA - NBC Sports will air the ninth and final round of the 2004 American Le Mans Series season with a one-day tape delayed telecast of the Audi Sports Car Championships, from Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, Sunday, Oct. 17. The Audi Sports Car Championships will commence on Saturday, Oct. 16, and will be NBC's only ALMS race of the season, which has given NBC analyst Bill Adam something to look forward to.

"I think the race at Mazda Raceway will be a wonderful way to finish another great year of racing for the ALMS," Adam said. "This has always been known as one of the most beautiful and challenging tracks in the country, and holding a race there that runs into the night, will really make it even better. The famous corkscrew is hard enough in the daylight, but adding the additional challenge of doing it at night, may give some drivers nightmares just thinking about it.

"The other point that comes to mind is the beauty of racing in the dark. In the daylight, fans can see every movement a driver makes with the steering wheel and watch the ballet of balance that takes place on the track, but at night it becomes more like a live art exhibit. I love this racing!"

Rick Benjamin will anchor NBC's Audi Sports Car Championship coverage beginning at 2 p.m (EDT) on Sunday, October 17. Bill Herbstman will be Coordinating Producer for NBC Sports for the telecast, produced by Wheeler TV of Charlotte, N.C. Jim Roller will be Producer and Billy McCoy will direct the telecast. Calvin Fish and Jon Beekhuis will report from the Pits.

The Audi Sports Car Championship will be televised live in Europe by MotorsTV beginning at 24:00 (UK time). The American Le Mans Series Radio Web will also have a live radio broadcast that can be heard online at www.americanlemans.com.
