I prefer Mobil 1 high mileage myself.

Hard to beat an oil change and filter on ZR-1 for $64 (with extra filter for next time) $55 if enrolled in Mobil 1 rewards.

What is the going price for a Zr-1 oil change with Amsoil now with filter? $100+?

Don't want to do the amsoil mobil 1 debate thing.

Just letting Amsoil peeps, there is a new oil and many dealers are giving 25% off retail.

To throw out a curve ball, but oil change related...

lets say you drop some coin on an oil change with expensive synthetic, but over the course of a few thousand miles you consume a couple of qts (maybe as much as 3 on the LT5 if driven hard). If I have old spec 10w-30 non-synth oil from 10 yrs ago, do you think it's ok to top up using the cheap stuff? If anything, the old oil has more zddp in it anyhow.

we all know you can blend oil types...how much synthetic do you really need?

My last case of Amsoil AMO 10w-40 was $81.90

so roughly 6.83 per Quart. Assume worst case of 10 quarts on an oil change, although I think it is 9

so $68.30 (10 qts) or $61.347 (9 qts) plus your choice of Filter

As for the Zrod, I have to wonder if it has the same ZDDP as the AMO or enough ZDDP and additives that are needed for our cars.

After I pour the quart of oil in the car I let the quarts drain into one empty quart container. this way I get all the oil out of them and after a while I will have a full quart instead of wasting that little bit in each container.

There are two links one for Mobile 1 and one for AMSOIL.

http://www.zr1.net/forum/showthread.php?t=3039&page=7

The AMSOIL had 50% more ZDDP than Mobile 1.

I bought 5 gallons of 10W40 for 137.50 (6.87 a Quart) Compared to 9.00 for Mobile 1 EP.
