Default Schumacher Shrugs Off Monza Crash

Schumacher Shrugs Off Monza Crash
Written by: RACER staff
Monza, Italy – 9/3/2004 Newly crowned seven-time World Champion Michael Schumacher has confirmed that he is completely fine following his 200mph accident in testing at Monza yesterday.

The German crashed heavily after suffering a rear-tire failure as he braked for the first chicane. After spinning, his Ferrari hit the wall with both the front and rear ends. When it came to rest, Schumacher climbed from the Ferrari and lay down by the side of the track. He then walked back to the pits, having declined a stretcher.

“I’m actually quite surprised myself, how well I survived the crash,” Schumacher said. “I didn’t hurt myself at all. I slept a little longer than I normally do this morning, and now it’s back to business as usual.”

The cause of the tire failure has not been disclosed and Ferrari's supplier Bridgestone has launched an investigation. Schumacher flew home to Switzerland last night.
