Heading to Byron
Looks like cool weather for July, so I am taking advantage. Maybe the track won't be too busy. Anybody else want to join in the fun?
Looking to do some datalogging. Let me know |

Re: Heading to Byron
Got some positive results today at the track. Since my last visit in May, I have added Pete's underdrive pulleys. Again, without DRs, my objective is to maximize trap speed and not necessarily ET. Nice day with temps in the
68 - 72 range altho overcast and very brief spinkle. First run vs. Mercury Marauder with 100 shot NOS. Ran a 13.0 at 116.8 That's about .7mph better since UD pulleys installed. Altho I missed second gear on the second run, I was able to datalog and made a small change to WOT fueling. Final third run v. LS based WS-6 TransAm w/Ram Air. I ran an a 13.1 @ 118.03. 60' was 2.4, just terrible. He ran a 13.4 @ 108. All runs on street tires at 29psi. Still spinning in 2nd. The top end on the LT-5 is intoxicating when tuned well. You feel as if you can spot somebody 2-3 car lengths and still pick them off at the end. Just amazing the acceleration within the last 600'. I was pleased with the trap speed improvement over last time out. Now need to work on 60' and 1/8mi. |

Re: Heading to Byron
Nice trap speeds!
Sorry for the hijack, but what do you use for the tuning?

I use EASE as my scantool, TunerPro RT as the bin editor. Also have a Zeitronix ZT-2 WB installed with the ZT-2 datalogging software and a Moates Ostrich RT Emulator so I can make changes at the track after a run. I went to Dragtimes and used the DA correction tool. I've attached the results so they can be compared to sea level. Last edited by XfireZ51; 03-08-2024 at 03:10 PM. |

Re: Heading to Byron
Dom,
Now you know why i like MPH. Alot of people don't understand MPH. ET is good but almost worthless on the street/highway real world. Pete

I'd like to play around with tuning a bit, but I'd like to be able to burn the programs onto the stock type of PROM vs some of those ones that use adapters. It seems pretty interesting, and the only way to learn is to start doing it.

Re: Heading to Byron
Bob,
The Ostrich also uses an adapter. The stock EPROM requires erasing using a UV light. The idea is to use the Ostrich for modifying cal until you have what you want THEN burn it either to a piggyback chip with adapter or use stock prom that has been erased and new cal burned in. I've used the Ostrich now for 3 years on both my 84 and now the ZR with absolutely no issues. The 2.0 version is quite a bit smaller and bin upload is very quick. Can be done while motor is running with no hiccup. You can find info at www.moates.net. Look under emulator. You are correct about starting to do it. I woud encourage you to do some reading about the various parameters and start with the basic ones. Make small changes and one or two at most. Last edited by XfireZ51; 07-20-2009 at 01:00 AM. |

Re: Heading to Byron
Completely agree. I know my et will suck because of driver and tires. $25 is pretty cheap dyno testing. It's also real world. Tests vehicle dynamics under actual driving and it's also fun to have these guys come over later and ask you what year Vette it is.
