Default Removing Window Tint

OK, one of the previous owners of my 1990 decided he/she had to have the window tinted with that wonderful tinting film I really don't care for it all that much and would like to remove it. Has anyone tried removing this stuff themselves? Everything I have been able to find online suggest this job is a real nightmare, especially the rear window. Is this a job for someone with average skill level, or is this something that should be left to a professional?

This is too easy! Go buy a razor blade holder and blades........hold the blade holder at about a 30 degree angle and the old tint rolls off like butter! Use some thinner or maybe some goof off to remove any stickey film left with a rag.

You can do that on the rear window.......with the defroster elements?

Rich Ive heard of the Ammonia water in a bag method for the rear but it makes a hell of a mess and stink.

Done it many times. Side widows, catch an edge and most will peel off. Take a razor blade with a soap & water solution ( helps the blade glide on the glass and not scratch it )to clean off the glue. On the back window use GOO-Gone to clean off the glue, takes a little time but cleans up nicely.

Agreed -- Goo gone is the way to go back there. Still smells a little, but citrus-y is better than the ammonia.

Yeah, that's kind of what I thought too. I may try the drivers side with the razor method, the passenger side with the Ammonia method and then decide if I will even attempt the back window or just live with the tint.
