Different Bilstein Sticker Design
Anybody get the new Bilsteins? The decal or sticker design appears to be different than the stockers (bummer).... So these are $179 each at eShocks.com. Seems reasonable.
Whats the brotherhood think? new shocks or send the old ones off to Bilstein? Do the rebuilts come back repainted with the new sticker or just cleaned up? Thanks Rick |

either way...i don't have a problem with the new ones. nothing stays the same forever as we already know.

Good point. I'm really inclined to buy the new and pack and save the originals.
Thanks for the comment. Are you going to be at the NW gathering in a couple weeks? |

Bilstein does not repaint them.
You can request decals...Take note of how they are placed, their directions are wrong. New gets you a warranty, rebuilt none.

Re: Different Bilstein Sticker Design
I just bought a set awhile back.....just a word of warning, the valving is not the same as what was in my 90 OEM shocks. The new ones are softer than my oem ones. You can actually use the perf setting on the street, I never could do that before unless the road was glass smooth.
I never noticed that the stickers were different.... Tom

Re: Different Bilstein Sticker Design
Yea Bob it is a bit wierd.....the new over the counter ones seem to be definately softer as I used to only use the sport setting at over 70 on undulating roads to control spoiler scrape and on twisties to control body roll....if I was being serious about the twisties. I actually never tried the perf setting for long on highways as it was way too stiff and caused my mirrors to vibrate on cement roads after 100, after 120 my eyeballs were vibrating in perf.
Now I have to go to the sport setting if I get on anything except an interstate to control body roll.....and, even on an interstate if I want to move thru traffic with alacrity, I sometimes have to go to perf from sport to control the body roll.....but mostly sport is okay up to about 80, after that perf is the only way to keep the roll out of the manouvers. I checked my end links and they are not damaged....okay all my bushings are 18 yrs old & intact but it could be that it's time for them to be r&r'ed. It just seems that all the settings are more comfortable generally than they used to be, more usable on the "used" roads in the NYC/Metro area. The trade off is any setting that I used to use now needs to be the next one up. I figure I'll take my OE shocks & get the Malacca treatment done to them maybe this winter, and start on the r&r of the b/joints & bushings @ the front. Matbe my springs are going out to lunch??? Tom

Re: Different Bilstein Sticker Design
Rick, are you replacing all 4? For the price of 4 new shocks you can almost get into a set of headers...
Saving the original shocks is a good idea though. Have fun!

Re: Different Bilstein Sticker Design
Hey Nick, I want headers so bad, that I'm about ready tyo start selling my model collection on craigslist....... A top end job by the boys down south would be nice too... I know
As far as the shocks, I was thinking of doing the two in the rear before the trip to Las Vegas, and then the fronts in November. |
