Default Drained the bank account again...but...

It was worth it.

Found Stainless works headers on the Bay for $590.00 shipped! Just took delivery of them.

'Course, now I can't find the stupid cable for the digital camera now.

I gotta go put the kids back out to work for more ZR-1 Mods. Still gotta get the bends and pipe for the 3" exhaust in SS, and gotta get the extra plenum and IH's to Jeff.

It just never ends.

They are not Stainless Works headers.. They are Marc Heibeck 'shorty' Headers

I emailed Marc the picture from the Auction since thee was Debate on CF about them..

I didn't think Marc ever sold any of those, since the power is better with the long tubes.

Well, I'll look closer in the daylight and post back. They are definately short headers, but having not been close to a set for an LT5, I wouldn't know the difference. I've had lots of sets of long-tube headers, but none for an LT5.

-=Jeff=-,

Did Marc acknowledge the build? Since there were so few (we suspect) builds he could likely ID the car/owner they were done for and confirm. I asked the eBay seller the information from the engine he had and received the wrong information to ID the car. Since I wasn't a participant in the auction for any of the stuff he had I left it at that.

---------------------------------

Ken,

Since your the winning bidder the seller might have more interest in providing you with the information from the engine, if he still has and the transmission that he has still up for bidding. With the VIN you could "carfax" the information and maybe learn considerable. The car might actually be recorded in the "RIP's" here on the Registry!
My concern because the seller had "so few" LT5/ZR-1 parts available was maybe they were a set of "specialty headers" done for a project. It would be good if Marc ID'd them as his, you're all set!
I see in you sig you've got PE exhaust now. I'd be interested in resonance of the system on the car presently with factory manifolds/cats etc. I might try the PE's with the factory stuff first before doing the headers.
My PE system, GS calipers(4), 3.90 differential, Watson headers, QA1 coil-overs and KWR shifter mod kit are all in boxes expecting an install this Spring.

I sent Marc the picture, asked which headers they were, I knew they were not Stainless or Watsons.. here is the info I got from Marc.

The catalyst on the left was still a very tight fit, even with the short primary pipes, so they were still complicated to fabricate. They were dyno tested for +18 hp. Stainless Works headers are good for +20 hp. I lost interest in the short headers since many states have dropped emission testing for ZR-1's. If you install them you will need to make extension pipes from the 3" collectors to the exhaust system. They would need to be about 10" long. Or use the catalysts if they are being sold too. With catalysts the short headers are 18 - 6 = +12hp.

I also questioned the seller as to these being Stainless Works or having been cut down for a specific application, here is what he had to say.

I have stainless works headers my self in a 90 zr1 and you have to tweak them to fit and air does not come on the stainlesworks headers, i forgot the zr1 tunner my friend bought them from , i know that stainlesworks if i call them they will make the headers taylored to my specs , so for future referance order a stainesworks catalog or maybe talk to them and you will notice that just because they are not marketed under their name they are made by them , they were on a 94 zr1 and we had to clearence a few litle things like air but the headers were not cut, if you want stainless works headers you can order from them then you need to weld the air fittings on them , they will tell you they are not street legal their version these if you take the manifolds of these bolt on with everything hooking back up to them just right.

Indeed Ken it seems like a good find! It's good Marc acknowledged the build, now all you need to do is get after the install! Good luck!
Obviously Marc might have some very good install information to pass on to you to "uncomplicate" the install.

Well, now I'm thinking that they are an even better find! One of a kind.

I've been having conversations with Marc on a new chip. I'll email him for more info.
