VIN Verification code = OKay
Thanks to QB93Z's extensive list of 216 VIN numbers, I was able to "perfect" the VIN algorithm; the instructions for which were posted here a few days ago, as you may recall. HOWEVER, I discovered that written specification was in error, with respect to reference to a "5 = X" in the (9th character) check number. In reality, if the number generated =10, then the 9th check character = X. There were some other nuances that weren't divulged in the original specification, but unless you are a glutton for punishment, I'll save your the gory details.
Anywayz, I have made the appropriate changes to the calculator, so if anyone wants a copy (Excel 2000), PM me and I'll send it to ya. Also, someone PM'ed me to tell me they had submitted just such a calclulator to the Registry's technical section, but in the process of cleaning up my PM box, I inadvertantly deleted the poster's ID. (Sorry guy!) OKay...Now you know some of what we frustrated Z drivers have to resort to for fun when our rides are penned in by snow, salt, and mud. We unravel ZR-1 VIN codes...WooHoo! Is it spring yet??? P. |
