Talking Oxygen Sensor Extension Harness

I am in the middle of the header install on the '91. I can't get to the wire harness except to plug something in. There just isn't any room down there. So I need to extend the O2 sensor harness on the right side about a 1 1/2'. I can probably get the weatherpack connectors from NAPA, but advice on the wire size, type and any other information (especially the no-no's) on this would be appreciated.

John, you can get the OEM weatherpack connectors through NAPA. When I built my 02 extensions I went to NAPA, and they ordrered them for me. I picked them up the same day right down the street at an AC Delco parts warehouse (lucky for me it was right in town!). I might have an extra extension laying around. Seems to me I bought an extra one. Let me check tonight and get back to you. Maybe save you some time and energy.

Many thanks to Jeff, Nick and Marc for their timely return of phone calls.

I have made a harness to extend the O2 Sensor wiring. All the parts were available at NAPA and it was easy to make. A better crimping tool would have been nice, but mine worked.

A couple of pointers for anyone doing this from Marc:
1. The weatherall connectors are the way to go, there shouldn't be any issues doing the extension this way.

2. Marc said you can extend the existing harness but you have to use crimp connectors. If you try it by soldering and taping the connections the O2 Sensors won't work.

3. You want to use 20 guage wire for this job.

Now on to the completion of the job.

Started the car last night but haven't driven it yet, so we'll see about drivability this weekend.

It's about time. How can you wait until this weekend? That car will be totally different now. Can't wait to hear your thoughts. Ted

Oh, it only gets more expensive from here.....
