Default exhaust question

What would the horsepower difference be on a 91Z with B&B exhaust if I were to run with a X pipe in place of the resonator? Car is stock with stock exhaust now. I have a 90Z with watkins headers and corsa exhaust, no X pipe, but the sides are tied together. will the 91 be louder with a B&B system with the X pipe and stock manifolds than my 90 is headers and the corsa? Thanks!!

About 5-10 HP with the X Pipe and the straight B&Bs, and hell yes it will be louder. It will be difficult to hold a conversation in the car but you can still always talk to youself Turn up the radio and rock on.

Also if the Corsas are in good order several people here would love to buy them from you. If you are a sado type install the watsons with B&Bs and an X-Pipe for even a more horsepower gain.

does your car have the cats still. that makes a difference . i have 2 90s one fully ported with jeal headers and a custom exhaust its quieter than my wifes car that is stk with desert developement exhaust. the xpipe i found make alot of resonance unless one goes with one of the xpipe mufflers on the market . also removing the cats makes the car alot raspier. i have come up with a quiet exhaust for car with headers that doesnt cost any power at all . . here is what it is . 23/4 in to a 3in magnaflow xpipe muffler. 23/4 from there with a small balance tube right at the upturn(a 7hpimprovement on my car)to flowmaster 539712 70series mufflers . i cut off the factory tips and installed them on the mufflers so that it looked like a factory stk setup. we did a same day comparo on a chassis dyno in bakersfield . the car made 423.3hp and 371.6 tq with the desert developemt exhaust 3in and with this setup made 429.7hp and 377.2 tq with this setup. its a very quiet setup with just enough bark when @ full throttle to be heard . my buddy is working on putting in some perferated stainless to line the inside of the tipps to quiet it even more. what i have been looking for is to make it sleeper quiet . which i fanally think i have gotten . at least for me . loud just gives this old guy a headache and lets everyone know where you are.

Thanks for the input! Sounds like you've come up with a great combination for your car. The 91 has stock exhaust. The 90 has Watkins headers with corsa exhaust, no cats. I have a B&B system coming for my 91 with both the resonator and x pipe. I was hoping that I would be able to run the B&B system with the x pipe behind the stock exhaust manifolds and cats and still have a reasonable sound level in the car. I could tolerate a little more rumble than the 90 has with the corsa, but I dont want it to sound like a street racer either. I think that the resonator will be the way to go.

Do you like the way your exhaust sounds with the watsons and the corsa system?

Yes, I do like the header/corsa combination. I have never heard an LT-5 with the B&B system so I don't know what to expect.

It has a more muscular tone to it as opposed to the corsa which shrieks on the top end. I had the misfortune of driving a ZR-1 from Texas to Oregon with the old style B&B with headers and a X pipe. I would go to bed at night and I could still hear the exhaust and ringing in my ears. Before spending the money to go for a ride in a car with the system.

I have a 69 Chevelle with the chambered exhaust behind an L-78 and I love the throaty rumble that it has, that is what I would like to get to with the B&B. But I sure as he~~ dont need my ears ringing at bedtime.
PAIN, no thank you!
