One of the zr1 net's members is having his exhaust changed out at Marc Haibeck. I want to buy his old exhaust but it is welded into a single piece. Does anyone have any ideas on a good inexpensive way to transport this, or am I out of luck? I live in GA.

is it just tack welded together on the joints and still using clamps?
or fully welded? not sure how to get that shipped. maybe drive the Z up from GA and get it installed? ![]() what exhaust is it?

He said that it was TIG welded, I don't exactly know what that means.The exhaust is a B&B with x pipe.

i bought a stock system from K.W. in FLA., it came up in one piece. he just bolted a 2x4 in between the muffler hangers & bubble wraped it up. came via Roadway, i'm pretty sure they just straped it to the wall of a van. made it fine. was about $200 bucks but it came long way. i can't complain.

Because of superior arc and weld puddle control, TIG allows you to create clean welds when appearances count. Because the heat input is often controlled by pressing on a foot pedal, similar to driving a car, TIG welding allows you to heat up or cool down the weld puddle giving you precise weld bead control.
The system is not tack welded. The seams are filled. There are no hangers holding it together. As I was telling rogerzr1, it is basically a new system. It was purchased, welded, and installed on a 91 ZR1 in 2004. In 04, the car had ~7K miles on it; today it has just south of 10K miles. The BBB system is stock and bolted directly to the collectors of Watson headers. Included in the exhaust system are Random Technology bullet cats (3"I/O) and Stainless Works X-pipe. The X-pipe was added when I had the car dyno tuned in 2005. What was the purpose of the 2X4 between the muffler hangers? Did it prevent the system from bending or protect the mufflers or both? |
