Default Location for Garmin GPS

1) has anyone used the non metal area of the windshield for a Garmin GPS ?
My Garmin GPS does not have an option for a remote antenna, durn it.

2) does the windshield metal prohibit a GPS from working ? Suspect it probably will.

Appreciate y'all's experience. Thanks in advance,

Gary

I am running a 12 year old Garmin Nuvi on top left corner of the windshield. Garmin map update at $35 is a lot cheaper than updating Pioneer AVIC map. I know... Google map is free but I find it convenient to have Garmin mounted semi-permanent on the windshield.
To answer your question, it take may be a minute or so for the Garmin to locate satellite signal but it works once connection is made with the satellite.

If you mount the Garmin right behind the detector cutout, it will work even better.

I got rid of my Garmin years ago once I got a smart phone and started using it with Waze. Got a Travel Buddy cup holder and then the Weathertech Cupfone which holds my phone securely and easy to glance at when driving. Just another option.

My iPhone GPS works fine inside the car on the right side of the dash, so why wouldn't any GPS work anywhere on the windshield? I doubt that coating in the windshield will have any effect on a GPS. Just try it and see.
The radar signals are a whole different species than the GPS.
