Correct Part - Belt Tensioner
Looking to make sure I get the right part for another item. My mechanic and I replaced the serpentine belt the other day. During the change over to the new one he noted that my tensioner needs to be replaced.
In reading the forum, if I understand correctly the tensioner assembly is not availabe as a new part anymore, only rebuilt. Correct? Assuming that is correct, do I need the whole assembly or just the tensioner pulley? The pulley seems to be relatively easy to find if so. Also of note, very low mileage car. Hasn't been driven much. UPDATE: I talked to my mechanic and he feels we should replace the spring too. Is that possible without buying a rebuilt assembly? HMM...UPDATE of the UPDATE: Apparently (according to Heibech) the ZR-1 tensioner spring is a low load tensioner, meaning if you pull yours with a torque wrench it should only measure between 15-19 lbs. under full load. I think I'm just going to get the pulley for the moment and then re-evaluate. But if needed, some claim the parts to rebuild the tensioner can be pulled out of GM Part # 10055897.
