Was at a local car parts store yesterday afternoon in the Z.
I was standing in line, waiting for my turn at the parts counter. Through the front window I noticed an older gentleman eyeballing my car, he walked a couple of circles around her and then walked back into the store. From the front door, to a crowd of about 8 or 10 people waiting in line at the parts counter, he announced in a very loud voice: "Who's the person driving the REAL Corvette in the parking lot?" awww.... shucks, just little ol' Me. Turns out he was the mechanic at the dealership it was delivered to (over 200 miles from where I live) who unwrapped her when she was new off of the delivery truck. It made such a big impression on him that over 30 years later he still remembered that one particular car. We chatted for a little while, he took some pictures, and we parted ways. Wonderful day, one for the memory book. 'Crabs |

Similar stoy: About 30 years ago I owned an original paint black 62 Grand Prix. It was a big beautiful cruiser with 8 lug wheels, factory tach, and white Morrokide interior.
I was showing the car at a car show in Jefferson Wisconsin. This black elderly gentleman came up to me a said, "I think I helped build your car." I politely listened to his incredible story and found it hard to believe. He told me if I opened the trunk and looked on the inside of the decklid on the top left side, the paint in the metal webbing in that area I would find a place where he purposely burned the paint slightly with his polisher. If the car had those marks there, it was a car he helped build on the line. He said he did that to every car he built for Pontiac while he was assigned to the paint shop. I opened the trunk and looked exactly where he told me to and I found his trademark swirl marks in the inside corner of the decklid. He said, "Yep that's one of mine." Small world and a unique trademark by a true craftsmen. Sent from my SM-G955U using ZR-1 Net Registry mobile app |
