Default Stereo

Is there a plug n play radio kit available that will work with the Bose system?

Metra sells the interface cables if I understand your question correctly.

I am making a bold assumption you want to retain the Bose speakers and amps? But Maybe replace the Head Unit? Below is a link to the Audio section over at Corvette Forum.

I went that route (Metro kit, Kenwood head unit) and I'm really happy and surprised the stereo sounds as good as it does.

The only real downside is, I ended up not putting the glove box back in place due to the extra used up space. I'm sure others have done a much better installation job than I did. I still have a working glove box lid, but not the normal inside compartment. It doesn't bother me but I'll have to deal with it (or with the buyer) come sale time.

Confused as to why the stereo will cause you not to have a glove box?

Yeah, I'm not surprised. I would be, too.

It was back in 2015, so it's not fresh in my mind. I can probably open the glove box and see what prevented me from easily putting the "box" back in place, but I just had shoulder surgery and the car's pickled up (since I can't drive it for a month or two).

I think it was something like, so many wires, or whatever the Metro kit consisted of. I think I just had a hard time finding room for it all.

But, like I said, it sounds great and that's what I wanted. Not having the plastic box in there to make it look normal hasn't bothered me. I can still put stuff in it. I laid a small black towel in there. Haven't opened the glove box in years.

I'll take a picture of it someday later this winter/spring.

Wow I remember when my AVIC Z series had a GPS antenna, Bluetooth interface connector module, amp feeds, iPod control and it all fit in there. What’s going on back there ?

Just installed a Pioneer AVH 1440 in a 1990. Retained the Bose speakers and amps. Modified the Metra harness to the CDM (far too long for 1990-1992). Only "long" cable left was the antenna coax. Simply rolled it up and tucked it behind the floor carpet at the firewall behind the glove compartment. Sounded super! Complete with DVD, Bluetooth, Apple Car Play, etc..[ATTACH][ATTACH]

When I had Barney, my '95, I got a complete kit from Zip Products which installed a Pioneer receiver and retained the Bose amplifiers. The kit had the proper harness to connect everything. It required only one modification to the structure behind the center stack and that can be reversed if there is ever a need to reinstall the OE control head.

Zip has a 2-part series of articles on the installation on it's tech story web site.

Part 1

Part 2
