What is this coming from?
Drivers side, near center of block. Oil on the metal tab that hangs out from side has oil on it. I cannot see from top where or what is the reason for the leak. Car has 14K on it and is a 93, thanks.

Re: What is this coming from?
It may be your cam sensor. I had the same problem.

Re: What is this coming from?
I'm not a mechanic...but...The cam sensor is bolted right above that tab...there is one bolt holding that sensor in there...I think that metal tab is just the heat shield for it. I just replaced my sensor and it aleviated the oil leak. When you remove the sensor be prepared for a little bit of oil to come out. The repair manual says to DC the Neg battery cable before you change it out. The sensor costs like 200+ from chevy...however, I think you can go onto the advance auto parts website and get an aftermartket one cheaper...is your SES light on?

Re: What is this coming from?
The metal tab is shielding for the cam sensor, the only way oil gets there is by "you" putting it there, cam cover leaking or the cam sensor is leaking.
It may have been R&R'd from the previous owner and they never cleaned the tab. is it fresh oil? |

Re: What is this coming from?
looks fresh to me, combination of old oil attracting dirt there and new oil in my opinion ,I have not noticed it before. No warning lights are coming on.
Change oil light is on however and thats getting done this week. The car makes a "knock" sound one time when it is shut down, its the final noise from the engine when the key is turned off...this I just noticed today after driving it several hours. I have just begun to drive this car from buying it the end of last year. In my opinion the car must have sat alot just to have 14k on the odo, and I have basically let it sit as well, only getting it out on days over 50 degrees and driving it to work and back (a total of 8 miles each time). Money is somewhat tight right now , BUT, I want to do the right thing with this car...the hoses look good as well as the belt, but what should a person do thats on a budget to make sure this engine is taken care of correctly. I am not a wrencher so I have to pay for anything done, unless it involves a screwdriver and something very basic. |

Re: What is this coming from?
Part Detail at Advance Auto Parts This is what the part I was talking about looks like out of the car...The big side bolts into the engine right above that little metal piece with the oil on it. I'm not a mechanic...so I'd hate to see you spend the money on a CAM sensor that is not bad...which obviously since your SES light is not on it's still good...it may be like an o-ring or something on the big side...I just had a similar problem and hope to help...if you find out that this is the problem it's a super easy fix to replace it...Good luck!

Re: What is this coming from?
I am working on the same issue, do you have to replace the sensor or can you get a gromet to reseal the unit? I assume that you just have to work this sensor out and it is not threaded in....lastly where is the conenctor, could not see on my car.
Thanks Lgaff |

Re: What is this coming from?
The connector is on the Drivers Side above the brake booster...there's a large bundle of wires...this should be in the area of that stuff...once the bolt is out it should come out with a little pressure...I replaced the sensor because it was bad...I had an SES light on....but I'm not sure if just buying a new rubber gromet will do the trick...that would be cool if it does! Good luck!
