Tranny drain plug
Was going to change the tranny fluid, but not happy with the way the drain plug is not coming out. I want a new one in hand before I ruin the old one.
Where does one get these? |

Kurt White is selling them on Ebay. Not hearing great things lately. Plus, $39 for the plug and $15 for shipping.

Heat it some with a propane torch. I bought the Allen wrench at napa. Then cut a piece off the wrench to slide into a short socket just the right depth to fit that shallow plug. This way it did not go sideways on me. The heat does the trick. First time they had been removed since built 27 years ago.

I also grind the end of the tool hex nearly flat (grind away the chamfer) to engage all the depth of the plug. Mine came with quite a bit of chamfer. Helps to keep the tool straight in the plug.

When you go back in, you might consider using ARP thread sealer. Works beautifully. Never have to worry about it sticking again. Using it on all plugs in my cars.

And, I've used Teflon plumbers tape - that and some Never-Seize (the latter on any plugs that must be removed periodically). Grinding off the chamfer...good one!

When it comes time to remove it, yes I will grind off the chamfer. Lube? Seems it is covered in lube, aka gear oil.
