Default Radio and climate control bezel refinish

Hi everyone. The radio bezel on my 94 needs to be refinished. But, there is a catch. The rubberized coat must have partially peeled (it happens) and the PO re-sprayed it with something I can't remove.

The new finish wasn't applied well and looks terrible. It is black and soft enough to scrape with a fingernail, but also sticky like tar. Acetone will cut it with some rubbing but makes a mess, mostly.

What else can I try? Maybe paint thinner? The valet key area was masked off and I want to try to do the same and save the lettering if I can. I hate to think what a 94-95 bezel would cost if I could find one, so DIY is strongly preferred. It doesn't have to turn out perfect but does need to be a couple of steps above a kludge, which it is now.

I was planning to list my oem 94 bezel just thought id mention it here if you did want an original

To answer your question though I believe there is something that will strip it. I used extra aircraft stripper I used for my wheels.. was too strong. Didn't matter as I wrapped it anyways but to keep it smooth is possible there is a product that can do it. I hear plasti-dip can do an oem-like finish on these.

I am looking at doing some Carbon Fiber wrap, or that hydro graphics stuff.

Wrap it in real carbon fiber and be done. That Dulso idea GM came up with is a sticky gooey mess

Hi everyone. Thanks for all the thoughts and suggestions. I've confirmed isopropyl alcohol is no good. Goo Gone and Goof Off weren't that great either. I'm going to try finish stripper next. No matter how the bezel gets re-done, what's on there needs to come off first. I'll let everyone know how it goes.
