Good news, my Bose works! Bad news, the car won't start.
Ok, the problem with my Bose system ended up being the CDM. I had Dr. Don repair it and I received it back today. When I pulled the car out of the garage to have more room to work, it started and ran just fine.
I unhooked the connectors under the CDM area and reinstalled the CDM and got all the CDM-related wired re-connected. Then I hooked up all of the connectors under the CDM and buttoned everything back up. Yay, the radio finally works! I was ready to go for my first drive with tunes, started the car and it ran for about 1-2 seconds and died. Now, it cranks and won't start...fuel gauge says 50 miles to empty, so I'm pretty sure I'm not out of gas. Here is the weird thing and hopefully a clue...I have no "check engine" light or "service ride control" light coming on when I turn the key to run and both lights worked fine previously. I just pulled the covers back off of the area around the CDM and re-checked to make sure I hooked everything back up. Any ideas where else I should start checking? Thanks in advance... |

1st put some gas in it the fuel pumps need it to stay cool, I never let mine get below 1/4 tank.

Ok, problem solved...although I've seen them happen, I rarely believe in coincidences. So, I went back again around the CDM box and found 2 connectors that were plugged in "switched". I assumed that each connector was unique in that area, and I was wrong about that. I switched connections and now all is good again...plus, I have a radio!

hmmm, wow...ok. The car won't run without an airbag fuse either... I don't know why they made it so vulnerable.

I had no idea there were connectors under/around the CDM that had something to do with the engine running It is kind of rare that the CDM fails but it also happened on my 1990......which I did a lot of switching of Bose and CDMs to figure it out

Re: Good news, my Bose works! Bad news, the car won't start.
My Main Guy (Jeff-F) that taught me a lot of what I know about the ZR-1 and knows everything I still do not know about the ZR-1 sent me this description of the CDM Connectors involved.
You typically disconnect those connectors to give you some slack with the big wire bundle underneath the passenger hush panel. The connectors are held in place to the panel with push pins to keep them from rattling around. But they are connectors 238 & 239. Both are ten pin, and they are easy to swap, so you must pay attention to the wire colors on each side to make sure a mistake is not made. 238 contains A Valet key (91) B Speed input for CCM, cruise, Radio C serial data D serial data E F Ground G H I J SES light 239 contains A Low oil B Selective ride control speed C Fuel enable ECM/CCM D E F Fuel pump, start G AC request H Power 3 amp ECM I J oil pressure As you can see, C239 contains power for the ECM and the fuel enable. Two important things to get the car to run Jeff If only I knew half of what he knows

Thanks, I had just replaced my CDM also, but did not have to unplug anything but its plugs.
