Did something real stupid today. Need Help
Ok I really messed up today.
I am owner of #192. Went over a hill today in third gear, accelerating moderately. Right over the nicely paved hill was about 1500 feet of terrible dirt/gravel road. I fishtailed terribly and headed straight for a head on collision with the front of a guardrail. Was able to pitch car to the right to avoid a major catastrophe (such as head on collision or rolling car into a ditch). Unfortunatly for my ZR1 I clipped the rear driver's sider quarter panel on the front of the guardrail. The rear quarter panel was about 1 foot from the bumper. It will have to be replaced as well as rear bumper pieces. Rest of the car looks about perfect. I will also have to replace the rear driver's side wheel. My wife and I were not injured. Needless to say I am greatly embarassed and pissed off at myself for damaging this great car. Funny thing is I was complaining about a small scratch I found on the hood this morning. Well, my ZR1 is no longer nearly perfect thanks to one idiot driver/owner. I have comprehensive insurance that can take care of the damaged body pieces. Can anybody reccomend a source for the rear quarter panel and bumper as well as a good body shop in Arizona? I am in Tucson. The car is still very drivable and would consider taking it to Phoenix to have it repaired by somebody who knows what they are doing. Thanks. |

The rear surround is still available from GM. THe bumper, you'll have to do some searching.A few NOS are still floating around, and some used undamaged ones as well. The other piece that you will have trouble locating will be the bumper molding.

Thanks Jeff. I will call around tomorrow to see what white racing has. I should post a picture of the damage. It is bad but could have been a lot worse.
The driver's side quarter panel above the wheel is what I am most concerned about. Not sure if it is available for a 94. |

Re: Did something real stupid today. Need Help
Hello and welcome to the forum
Sorry to hear about your bad experience. The parts can be found as Jeff has pointed out, but it will take a little leg work if you are going to hunt for them yourself. As to places in AZ, neither of the following two handle what you need but might be able to steer you in the right direction. It can't hurt to call or email them; Faber Corvette Phoenix, Az (602) 252 7436 ZR51 Performance Cave Creek, AZ 85331 602-319-6575 Bill Boudreau Email: billb@zfdoc.com Good luck and keep us updated. |

Re: Did something real stupid today. Need Help
We just had our rear end fixed/bumper replaced on our '90. Parts were a b*tch to find and, not to dishearten you, the repair took over 4 months due to locating the parts. Ended up getting a junked rear bumper through Dino's Corvette Salvage in Florida and the shop had to repair the top panel damage. Some of the moldings were still available through GM and some of the parts came from White Racing. Good luck. Boy, do I sympathize! The good news is that the car came out looking brand new. We had our repairs done through Purifoy Chevrolet in Ft. Lupton, CO.

Thanks very much for all the input!
Talked with Bill at Z51 in phx. He recommended a good shop to put the pieces on. While it is up there might have Bill do some performance upgrades. Thanks again to all. I will let everyone know how it turns out! Chris |

Just a thought, but maybe there's a reason to consider a body kit now that you need to get some panels anyway.
