can anybody tell me if you have to remove the headlamp assy to get the headlamp motor out of the vehicle?

Re: Headlamp Motor Gear Replacement
You could probably do it while the headlight assembly is still mounted to the hood, but it's much simpler to just remove the whole thing and work on it on a bench. After removing mine to replace the bushings (the gear will probably still be ok) there's no way I would do it while the headlights are on the car.

Re: Headlamp Motor Gear Replacement
Use this article:
http://www.corvettefever.com/howto/33098/ I just finished doing BOTH assemblies in less than 3 hours. You'll take the whole thing off, but its a snap: 6 10mm bolts and one 13. You'll need a 1/4" nut driver, a 30 torx, and a small snap ring pliers. And of course, buy yourself the bushing set and a couple of gears from Ecklers, MidAm or Zip. The new bushings wont go in unless you sand a bit from the gear, but its not much. Its not very difficult and you can clean everything in the headlight area once the assembly is out. Dont forget to use silicone grease when reassembling the electrical connector. |
