Just a thought on the stolen ZR-1 that still had its original drivetrain after being stripped. Car thieves used to play a game were they would steal a car, carefully take it apart to the point it was a total loss. Then buy the cars salvage at auction....they could then reassemble the car and they would have it legitimately...prior to carfax the values were not impacted that greatly if they were "totaled".....the thief could then sell the car without worry

Just like rental car places- insurance companies have seen every trick in the book and are probably wise to it.
