Default Need Some Advice

Hi...

This is a sort of intro and hopefully you guys will help me out rather than throwing me out.

First, I'm not a ZR-1 owner but I've loved the ZR-1 concept from day one. Second, I am a past 4-time Corvette owner. I'm a senior... so I go way back. My first taste of Chevys was a 1956 convertible with the power pack engine and 3-speed OD. I then moved up to a '57 into which I transplanted a 283/270 Corvette motor and trans.

Then I got more serious bought a '57 with a tired motor so I put in a 327/375 fuelie block & heads (I was too young to think about matching numbers), and the next one was in 1967 after I got out of the Army. That one was fully built, consistently ran 12.2's/12.3's at Island when I lived in NJ. In 1967 that was moving LOL. Couple years later the bug bit again and I ordered a brand-new '69 Yellow coupe with side exhaust at Konner's Corvettes in Paramus. The last one was a '99 black coupe 6-speed... wonderful car. Saw the new 2014 Corvette at Press Day at the NYC Auto Show. My son is in the biz and got us passes. Loved everything but the taillights and I told the product manger that!

OK, so much for my background with Corvettes... here comes the question. I have an original mixed media illustration of the original Corvette ZR-1. It was done by a very well-known automotive illustrator/painter for a project I was involved with. I've had this painting in storage for all these years and now that I'm downsizing everything in my life LOL... I'm wondering if there's a museum or collector that could potentially be a buyer for this piece... and more specifically, I'm wondering if anyone here can point me in the right direction. Googling doesn't seem to work, and galleries are not interested in such a narrow-focused piece of art. The cost of this original art was around $4500.00 bc the artist gave up the original and could not offer any numbered prints which is typically how they make some money.

So you guys can throw me out, or hopefully steer me in the right direction. I'm a member of a few other automotive forums and I know some people can get upset when a "newbie" asks the wrong question. I'll understand if thats the decision.

Here's a shot of the artwork. The actual painting measures about 17" wide and 21" high, mixed media, the stock is about 21" wide and 23" high. The history here is it was done for a Nintendo NES video game, and GM had granted the rights to use the name ZR-1 on a video game for a very substantial 5-figure guarantee. As it turned out, the ZR-1 game was never introduced as the developing company got out of the business. The artwork was commissioned and purchased outright by the developer and as part of my involvement I was given this painting as part of a payoff for my 14 months work on developing the game, plus it was known that I was a Corvette fan and would appreciate the worth of it. All the development costs and guarantees were obliged and written off.

The scene shows two Corvette ZR-1's racing along a probably fictitious stretch of highway with the Golden Gate bridge in the background. It has never been mounted or framed or exposed to sunlight so the colors are 100% as bright as the day it was completed. This is a one of a kind piece with no copies or prints.

From Wikipedia:

"Race America (also known as Corvette ZR-1 Challenge[2]) is a racing video game for the Nintendo Entertainment System. The art style is in a Western art style; a clear sign of its non-Japanese origin.[3] In addition to this, this game was never released in Japan under either title due to the popularity of Honda and Toyota in that country as opposed to Chevrolet and Dodge. The European version received the Chevrolet license to use its Corvette vehicles while the North American version had to be redesigned into vehicles that strongly resembled Dodge Vipers.[3]"

This art might have more value to the Video Game Collectors, but I was hoping someone here could point me to a ZR-1 Museum or something along those lines.

Have you tried to contact the National Corvette Museum, in Bowling Green, Kentucky?
