Default Battery trouble

My ZR1 has been sitting for a while, and when i went to start it,the battery was weak, so i thougth lets give it a charge , but when i applied the terminals, it showed about 80 % charged on the charger screen readout, but then the charger went crazy, with the needle swinging wildly to the opposite side at the same time the charger started making a weird noise, needles to say i disconnected the he charger, and know battery id dead, any ideas, the battery is an Interstate.

Whatever you try, I'd disconnect it from the car before trying it.

I disconnected mine when I charged it, and it said to put at least 24" of cable between the negatives of the charger and battery. I have a basic charger though. Make sure the terminal bolts aren't stripped, you can get a bad connection that way and get some weird happenings. I know, cause it happened to me.

I believe you are right as I took it off and applied the charger to it, and its taking a charge without funny noises from the charger, anyways I will take it in the morning and have it checked out, and if it has no dead cells, I will charge it overnight at home, thanks for your help !

It's possible your charger is flakey. Best to pull the battery and have it checked by your local parts store first.

The info on Marc's website regarding battery care might be useful.
