NOT the end of the story.
OK never jinx anything by using the absolutes that I have been prone to use when euphoria has struck like when I posted up "The Rest of the story"
All going well and a happy camper except the fog and rain we have had for the last several days. Then looked behind my seat and found a part that I did not re-install. Don't even remember taking it out when I pulled the dash but by the way it looks it has to be from the air system in the dash and for the life of me this thing doesn't ring any bells. Might be having another "senior"moment? Any one have and idea what this is? |

When you google GM 10100177 it comes up as a duct side window defroster. Not sure if that helps or rings a bell .

Left most piece of defroster duct for side window. How deep do you have to go for replacement? Don't know! If you put all the hardware back when you did the dash top pad install it would make it more difficult. If you didn't use all then you might be able to lift top pad to accomplish the fix. Might you NOT be concerned? Maybe! #74 this image:

Thank you everyone. OK so now I can add blind to my list of defaults. More frequent "senior moments", lousy spelling and proof reading and verbosity. Jeez if my list gets any longer I will start forgetting items on the list.
Have to be blind as I looked at the schematic several times and did not recognize that the part on my desk and the item #74 were one in the same. 90 % of the time the defroster is not needed here but during our winter months it is useful. It has been raining since last Friday, cold and foggy. Next time I am forced to remove the dash (read that as not for a very long time--I hope) the part shall be properly re-installed. |

just do it again while the procedure is fresh in your memory, the second time always goes quicker on these type of things.

Thanks for the advice but I am going to put it on a circle red X status until the next 100 hour inspection. I need to put some time on it to work out the other bugs.

I'm surprised no one is saying "just toss it".
Lots of parts just get tossed for less reason than forgetting to put it back in. I found a 3in x 1/4in dia bolt on the garage floor. Have no idea where it goes. It's definitely an automotive bolt. I have no idea where it goes. It is unique in that the treads on the tip go all the way to a sharp point. It's like a GIANT self taping screw. I checked the radiator stack and see no place for it.
