1990 GM Service Bulletins
Anyone know of a source for these? Looking for a copy of Bulletin 90-436-9J.
Thanks, John |

If you are a registry member, they have them on the members site.

Re: 1990 GM Service Bulletins
90-436-9J relates to the fromunda crud on the mounting ear of the air bag sensors. Oh, I forgot, "fromunda" = From under, that's NYeese for under.
I've been told that Grodon Killabrew(Foryourcar.com) said to clean the corosion at the mounting bolt & brkt & spot on the frame for the bolt boss. Use di-electric grease and add a star washer and re-mount the sensor. I think water has a way of laying there sometimes and causes a bad ground condition. I don't /didn't get any codes on my car but as I had the battery out I went ahead & did the driver's side sensor. The passenger side I have yet to do so I can offer no "insight" to the method of getting to that sensor. Driver's side is easy: Discon battery, remove left rocker panel, remove gill panel & note position of upper shim, remove battery & tray, and air bag sensor is in view on the frame. Yellow wire, large & labeled is the tell tail to the sensor(black box about 2" sq). I would discon batt first before doing anything on the body panels as the warnings about dis-charge of air bad say to wait at least 15 min. before working on SIR wiring & components. Helm manual says that in the "cautions". I followed the "caution". You need torx bits and 13 & 10mm sockets & 1/4" rachet set works fine or 3/8" rachet set. I find the 1/4" set easier to use on stuff like this. Tom

Re: 1990 GM Service Bulletins
I have had my air bag light on for over two years now. I have taken both sensors out twice and cleaned them. Tried to clear the code to no avail so I purchase the code clearing gizmo from Corvette Central and still no luck. I just live with the light. Would like to clear but nothing seems to work for me. Would welcome any suggestions!!!!!

Just took Gordon's class last week. Both he and Chris are great people. I was looking for the bulletin just to double check myself as I go thru the process. Gordon said to be careful with the di-electric grease, it does not conduct electricity. BTW, I'm from upstate, haven't heard "fromunda" before. Must be a downstate phrase. Thanks again, Regards, John |

Re: 1990 GM Service Bulletins
Hi John Man I'm envious of you taking class with Gordon....that's my dream to scrape together enough $ to go the whole route so I can understand this car! It's alot different than my last vette, a 72....and I thought that car was hard to work on!
I haven't done the passenger side yet but if I do I'll report back to this thread on what I find out about how to do it...I know I eye balled it some time ago...I think Aurora40 did his and has some insight into the procedure?? Oh almost forgot, this may be of help. I was over in the C4 section at Corvette Forum and saw an interesting thread about the infl rest light. One member over there had a way to test the sensors and the steering wheel separately. If I can find the thread I'll try to do a link to it. I just have to do a search as it was all new to me & very interesting. Good luck Tom

Re: 1990 GM Service Bulletins
Okay now everyone will know the depth of my P/C skills.....
Over at CF in the C4 Tech/performance section on page 2 there is a thread titled "What does "INFL REST" mean?", see reply #5 for the diagnostic procedure I was referring to in my previous post. Sorry about the road map....some day I just may get the hang of this P/C stuff! Tom

Gordon's class is a MUST!!! There is nothing he doesn't know. He and Chris are great. Wish I had planned ahead to stay in town for the gathering last weekend. Maybe next year. Diagonosed my car, got a code 16 & 26. Looks like I am going to have to clean up the sensors. If you are going to be up in the Albany area, drop me an e-mail. John |

Re: 1990 GM Service Bulletins
John! When I get squared away with my Z for the season I'll for sure drop a line...any excuse to drive mine more than 50 miles, no need to twist my arm!
