My wife wants a car. Oh boy.
We all know that when it comes to cars all most women care about is if it's cute and gets them from point A to point B. Well my wife has always loved the old Fiat spyders and the MG midgets. She comes back from the grocery store last saturday and says OMG! I saw the cutest MG midget. It was black on black and the guy said he has 3 of them and that he restores them and she gets his number. He only lives 1/2 mile from us. She says I thought we could take the Z over there and check his cars out. So we did. Very cool guy. Very neat little cars. He had several in various states of restoration. When he gets them if they are to trashed he parts them out and makes $$$. If they are in good shape he keeps them. He pops the hood and it's just a little 4 cylinder. She says so what do you think honey. I say I think I could tub it out and put an LT5 in it with the ZF6 and run 8's at the drag strip. She then punches me in the shoulder. Lol! So it looks like there's an MG midget in her future. I know she'll love it.
P.S He drooled all over the Z. And his eye's lit up when I told him my 68 Mustang was up for sale. So I may have found a buyer or swap it for one of his midgets. |

Re: My wife wants a car. Oh boy.
Years ago my daily driver was a 61 Sprite (bug-eye) which was similar to the Midget (same frame, drive train, etc.) I got drafted and had to part with it before I could complete my "master plan" which was to yank the 4 banger out and drop a Chevy 283 in it ... I had seen one ... tight fit, but it worked. Not that I'm trying to give you ideas, but you never know .... fwiw, the best engine/tranny swap that I ever saw in the Sprite/Midget was the 2 liter Volvo engine of the early 70's ... trouble free and plenty of power.
kinda wish I had that car back to complete the job |

Re: My wife wants a car. Oh boy.
My Dad had an 1973MGB for a long time when I was growing up. It sat in the garage for 13years not running. ONe day we changed al the fluids, rebuilt the carbs and it fired right up. It sure was a fun car to drive, even though it was slower than a snail. Tha rack and pinion steering in those cars makes you feel like you can take neighborhood corners at 65MPH or better. The skinny tires wear out fast. Top down fun though.
