What Happens When your Ride Control Module Dies?

So, I have been unsuccessfully chasing a problem with my speed sensor. The FSM suggests removing the ride control module (which also connects to the VSS) to ensure that module is not causing a loss of VSS signal.

I disconnected the ride control module (which unfortunatley was not causing my intermittent VSS issue) - what I was surprised by was that I got no error codes on the D.I.C. - even after staring the engine 3 times?

I was expecting at last to get an SRC code on the third start.

Has anyone had a ride control module fail? How do you know when it fails?

I think removing the module makes it like the car never had SRC at all. With the module disconnected, I don't think the Service Ride Control light will illuminate.

If the module is reconnected, and you disconnect one of the shock actuators, you should get a malfunction light.

I'm going to try disconecting an actuator when I put it bac in - I agree that should set a code

I still think I shoud get a code with the whole module out - will try few more egine start cycles when I get back home.

I guess we'll have to disagree on that one then. I think the removal of the module will essentially lead the CCM to act as if the car is a non-FX3 equipped car.

Correct.. CCM/BCM will not flag if it is not connected

Jeff, Vettemed - yup, you guys are right. Tried a few more start cycles - SRC lamp doesn't even light during start sequence. Good to know in case I ever decide to go for coilovers

Seems like a odd design to me - I have to believe there are failure modes where the module would also behave "like it wasn't there" - not sure how those would be detected. Reminds me of a shool teacher I had who didn't like taking attendance - she say "anybody who's not here - raise your hand"

Most of us retain the FX-3 system with the coilovers so something to consider. No not odd if your remove all the LTPWS bands as well out of a MY 90 or 91 the LTPWS light wont engage either. Remember multiple corvettes were made with multiple options with the same harness so its either there or its not as the BCM/ECM polls your system and receives a signal..... remember this is 80s technology.
