I need to replace my harmonic balancer
Hi All,
I discovered that I seem to have a bad harmonic balancer in my 90 ZR1. The symptoms are: The balancer pulley seems to be spinning somewhat off concentricly with the crankshaft as I am getting belt tensioner flutter. My L98 has no such dampener flutter. The pulley does not look just right when viewed with trouble light with the motor at idle. It wont pass the nickel test. The belt condition is good at this time. My question is, should I go back totally stock pulley or install an improved aftermarket balancer ? Rockauto has a stock replacement made by Dorman. Can I transfer any balance weights from the OEM balancer to the new replacement regardless of manufacturer ? This repair has to be done in the car because I am not pulling the motor. The FSM shows what has to be done to R and R the balancer and this is no big deal as I have a hoist at my disposal on weekends. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks all, Don in VT |

Re: I need to replace my harmonic balancer
Don,
I purchased a Dorman/OE Solutions pn 594-116 balancer a while ago. It does not have the holes for the balancing pins and is made in China. I never installed it, so I can't comment on fitment. I can't speak for the ATI aftermarket unit. Can anyone who has purchased one let us know whether it has the balancing pin holes? Jep |

No, the ATI does not have balance holes.
