Default Solution to my misfire problem was a crimped wire to # 1 Injector

I have been trouble shooting a misfire and lean fuel problem on my 1993 ZR-1 for a while. I finally found and corrected the problem.

The wires to #1 primary injector got pinched between the plenum and the injector housing on a previous plenum pull and crushed the insulation on the wires and blew the INJ#1 fuse. I repaired the insulation, but missed that the wire was damaged about an inch further up the insulation. The result was that #1 Primary and Secondary Injectors were not operating.

Here are some pics of the final repair:

Final result, QUASARZ is running better than ever now that I can get to see the result of Phil's Plenum and IH porting.

Jim

Congrats on finding the problem. I really enjoy reading these threads. Trying to be a sponge and soak up all this first hand knowledge.

Great new Jim!!! If anyone could run this one down it was you. I was wondering if it was something more serious after I saw you post on the WTB a fuel regulator.

Hats off to ya! That problem rises above "the norm", far as troubleshooting goes! Now get ready for some permagrin!

Jim, are any of your other Zs modded, or is this your first P&P (or whatever)? Boy, I remember my first outing after I P&P'ed my top end. It was a totally different, TOTALLY different animal!!

And, just for some icing on the cake, I was on my way home from that first test drive when a red Pontiac (LT1 Firehawk?) with a couple a young "hotties" came up on my tail. I was doing about 60 when they pulled out and passed me, hesitating along side long enough to smile and wave before nailing it and completing their "pass".

I don't know who they thought I was, or maybe didn't care(?), and if it had been some young guy(s) instead, I probably would have ignored them, as I usually do. But! A couple hotties in their 20s? That never happens (to me) - more that once or twice a day, anyway They were definitely teasing, and I was suddenly transformed to a teenager in the Corvette I could never afford when I was a teen - game on!

We played "leap frog" a couple times before I turned the LT5 loose to cap it all off. Man, whata rush!! But, to be honest, I don't know if it was the "new" LT5 or the flattery of a couple gals wanting to play with this ol phardt and his Vette. Doesn't matter. I put it in the "good times in the Z" memory file, and always grin when I replay it in my mind! Good hunting, Jim!
