SO, I pulled the plenum and fuel rails off my 91 last night, and it seems that the injectors were replaced (PO said that they are Accels), but the primary and secondary injectors are exactly the same unit, but the installer left the lower o-ring off on the primary injectors (which have the o-ring in the injector housing). The primary injectors that seat into the ports with the built-in o-rings, are seated firmly in, but it just seemed odd to me. Are the Accels only available in one part number, like the later cars used? Is there any reason to not run this way?
Here's a pic: ![]() Thanks! Andrew |

That's the way the Accels are.
The primaries seal to the injector housing with the lower 'O' ring and the secondaries seal with a large 'O' ring on the body of the injector. TomC 'Crabs |

That's how the '90-92 injector housings are. The primaries have to seal to the body, there is nowhere for that lower o-ring to seal to. I believe it was a carryover from some sort of funky primary intake system they were trying to do. The '93+ housings corrected it.

One more question -- Does the use of these Accel injectors mean that I could swap the 93+ 405hp injector housings in with no other changes, assuming I put o-rings on the primaries?

Yes. Not on a 90 model, but you can on a 91 & 92. 90 model cylinder heads are different and so are 90 model injector housings.

The 90 model cylinder heads had a 3/4" (abt) hole milled in the passages for crankcase ventilation to the injector housings, and the 90 model injector housings had a restrictor washer/plate with about a 1/4" hole in the center. Greg Vandeventer asked them why are you machining a 3/4" hole in the head and then making & assembling a restrictor washer for installation in the injector housing? Why not just leave the injector housing "as-cast" and drill the restrictor in the cylinder head instead of a 3/4" hole? it saved a lot of unnecessary steps & cost.
If you use "un-restricted later model injector housings on the 90 with the big 3/4" hole, it will pull too much vapor & oil into the PCV system. You can put the 90 model "restricted" injector housings on the 91+ models, but you should first remove the restrictor washers from the injector housings. Your can use any model year injector housing on your 92, without modification. If you use 90 model injector housings, just remove the restrictors or drill them out to 3/4" or more first.
