I have been in the supra community a loooong time, but there is a strange phenomenon that occurs with the vette that NEVER happens with supras. Everytime I drive the vette, every other vette owner waves. It doesn't matter what vintage vette, it just seems like there is no boundries, or attitude with the different generations. Not only vette owners, but motorcycle riders, and MOST ricers leave me alone. This is never the case when I drive ANY of my other cars.
Just curious if this is the case everywhere, or just here? |

Yes, generally everywhere, but more so in the midwest, less in big cities. Here in Southern California it's probably under 50%.

![]() Welcome to the Brotherhood of the Beast and the Family of Corvette.
Most all of us will wave at a fellow 'Vette as we pass one another on the street. It comes from an attitude of family and a camaraderie of similar mind sets. Just like a fighter pilot knows another fighter pilot by just a look, we are cast from a similar mold. In the olden days, Gladiators would shake hands, not just because of respect or friendship, but to also dislodge any knives hidden in their sleeves. We wave for much the same reason. Two lions who cross paths in the Savannah will roar at each other, but they seldom fight. It's widely known by ricers & the like that 'Vettes are not to be trifled with. You just can't beat cubic inches. They are keenly aware that anyone who can afford a 'Vette can likely afford to mod it so there's really no point in initiating a response. Nobody likes getting beat. Bikers are another story, they reside in a different category entirely. It is possible to go down the local Cycle shop and buy a two wheeled death machine off of the showroom floor that is nearly as fast as a Top Fuel dragster. It takes a certain kind of person to strap oneself to such a machine. Most of us don't fit into that category, or perhaps we did at one time but have survived it. We do not live in their world. We are as far from them as they are from us. It's kinda like an F16 and the Space Shuttle. They're both machines that go fast. Takes a different breed to fly 'em. Supras are singular beasts. Fast, sleek, dangerous. Never did like the rounded wing on the back of the Gen4's, but I do like the 6 foot monstrosity on the back of a '70 Superbird or '69 Daytona. Go figure. Most don't realize what awesome power that is hiding underneath the ugly plastic body kits, fart can mufflers and under body neon lights that so many of the owners seem to favor. Lucky for us 'Vette guys, not that many were imported or we might have troubles with our King of the Hill status. No joke. Those little inline 6 cylinder engines with a big turbo and "Nawz" can pound out some seriously impressive numbers. Well there you have it. I'm climbing down off of my soapbox, get back to your daily musings, nothing to see here. Welcome to the Brotherhood. ![]() TomC 'Crabs |

Thanks for the very well thought out response
![]() I couldn't agree with you more about the supra part, I am anti body kit of any kind, and looked hard and long for my hardtop/wingless car. It would eat my lf ZR-1 with no issue, but that is another story. I like low key, and shopping cart handles do not fit the bill. Most people think my supra is a n/a ![]() Here are a couple pics of two of my favorite cars (besides the vette of course). My 1991 highly modified turbo awd celica, and my hardtop tt. ![]() ![]() Quote:

Welcome to the Brotherhood!
I did some time on a couple ZX-11s and managed to survive. It became apparent to me after "a few" heart stopper events that it was just a matter of time before I became a grease spot on the highway. But, zero to 100 mph in about 4 (?) seconds was breathtaking! (Not sure 'bout the time cuz I was hanging on for dear life!) The Z is more to my liking these days, and plenty enough of a handful. And, I can ride it in comfort on a sub-freezing day! P. |

Welcome aboard.
I too remember my first experience with a vett (1977). I moved from a hopped up mustang to a 73 454bb. And I too remember the extreme comradeship on the road. AND the automatic respect a vett gets from most drivers. I figure it's from being spanked by a vett at some point in their lives ![]()

Robert, the wave, is indeed alive in the Corvette world...
![]() you' have probably heard the old joke what's the difference between a corvette owner and a porcupine? That with the corvette the prick's are on the inside.... ![]() This statement couldn't be farther from the truth. Seriously, i have met some of the nicest people in my many days, through corvette ownership. Corvette owners tend to go the extra mile, to help hands on, or anwser questions, opening their homes, and wallets, it is quite unique in the car world. you can mod any car, to be fast. The only thing stopping you is you're bank account. I'm proud to be part of this group, of misfits. ![]() ![]() |
