Default Clutch break-in & Tac error Qs?

Item:
New (single mass) Fidanza Al FW, new OEM clutch kit (including an 11" sprung hub and long FW bolts).

Q: I understand our clutches (pull type) have some quirks w/ regard to break-in...no? What is the best procedure for breaking in such a setup w/o ruining either the disc or the pressure plate in the process?

Tac errors:
I've read that the error (reading higher than actual) is common, and once it starts, it tends to just get worse. (Sounds like something breaking down w/ age (heat?); makes me wonder if there isn't an electrolytic capacitor or two in the cluster that is the cause of accuracy to "go south" with time. (typical nature of the beasts).)

Q: What is failing, and how big of a deal or $$$ is it to fix? Does the cluster have to come out?

TIA,

P.

1. Don't bonsai the disk for a few hundred miles.

2. Get a shift light.

Paul,

I spoke to Gene Taber of Corvette Dash Cluster Service a while back. His son owns Taber Corvette Parts. He stated that the problem is with a shift in resistance value of one or more resistors on the bottom of the cluster circuit board. He wouldn't give me any more specific information, though. His site is:

Hope this helps.

Jep

I've had a couple conversations with a fellow that does tach repairs for a couple of the larger vendors. He doesn't do the C4's presently but I sent him some snapshots of the board I had removed from a conventional '93 cluster and he pointed out the resistors/capacitors that should effect the calibration. He offered to take mine and do some bench checks to confirm his thoughts and accomplish the repair.

I've never removed mine to send and I need to accomplish the fix soon. I may actually just remove my cluster and do a repair through an GM cluster repair facility. The advantage of doing the complete cluster would be the calibration of all the analog gauges.

I had also considered just swapping the '93 board first just to see what effect it would have on the tach calibration.

Paul I put 200 miles on mine before pushing it hard. That's 200 city miles not hwy miles. That way you have to shift allot. So if a Hemi Challenger wants to race you your just gonna have to bite your tongue and let him think he beat you.

Project still hasn't reached it's apogee. But, I hope that will happen beginning next week and after that it comes together in time for some tuning and a few runs before BG.

Stay tuned!
