Default ZR-1 Trip: Maryland to Texas

I will be driving from Westminster Maryland to New Braufels, Texas this week for the South Texas ZR-1 BBQ Weekend this coming weekend.

Thanks to Glenn and Corey for hosting this event.

David (ZZZZR1) will be my co-pilot. We plan to leave Maryland on Wednesday evening or early Thursday morning. Our route will be south on I-81 to Knoxville, then I-40 west through Nashville and Memphis to Little Rock. On Friday morning we will head south on I-30 to Dallas, then I-35 to New Braunfels.

We are taking the 1994 Yellow ZR-1 that has over 97,000 miles on it so we may hit the 100,000 miles mark on the way back.

Any one along the route that wants to meet up with us and pace us for a while would be appreciated, (or maybe we could meet for lunch or a beverage).

Question: I heard a comment on XM radio about a closure of part if the interstate system in the NC/Tennessee area due to a rock slide. Does anyone locally know if that will affect our route?

Jim

Have a safe trip fellahs. Be sure to watch out for the fire ants, they are especially mean spirited in the great state of Texas. If bitten have a few Shiner Bach brews to kill the pain.

When you cross the Mississippi river going into West Memphis, BE CAREFUL. Theres always road construction. Truck traffic is heavy and the lanes are rough. I went thru there going to Hot Springs about a month ago and i doubt its any better. When you go thru Little Rock don`t be surprised if some kid in a hopped up Camaro or a Mustang comes up beside you for a challenge. Last year i got challenged by a Camaro and i just ignored him. This year it was a Mustang with two about 20 year old guys in it. They made it impossible to ignore. The Mustang did better than i expected and they saw right quick that they had bitten off more than they could chew. The kid on the right rolled down his window and gave me a thumbs up. The ZR-1 ruled again and thank God the law wasn`t around.

WAZOO gang leaders Jim and Dave rides out to the Wild West!
Cannot help but remember some of the famous trail ride partners in history:

Butch and Sundance
Jesse and Frank
Lone Ranger and Tonto
Hannibal Haze and Kid Curry
Batman and Robin
Laurel and Hardy
Bing and Bob
Harry and Tonto
Jay and Silent Bob
Tom and Jerry

To the list I add Jim and Dave!

Be careful boys, the last Jim and Dave pair that ventured into that part of Texas did not fair so well.
Last names were Bowie and Crockett. Best advice I can give you two is don' volinteer for gaurd duty at the Alamo.
