The search for DAG.
The search for this stuff is starting to look like and urban Legend just like the Permabond A136 did. It's something that used to exist but no more. When I go into an automotive parts store and I ask far a wet graphic compound and explain what its for most look at me like I'm from another planet. And the very few that do know what I'm talking about say they used to carry it but not anymore. But everybody seems to carry the dry graphite for key locks. So obviously this is not something that is widely used on cars even though most cars have a throttle body. I'm sure it does exist but it's not something I can get locally. My search continues.

Re: The search for DAG.
Update I call another Oreillys and they said they have a graphite lube that comes in a little tube. So I'm off to check it out. I will let you know my findings and if it's legit I'll post up a picture and the brand.

Re: The search for DAG.
I've always thought this was the product. I've first heard about this as a throttle blade sealer on early Pontiac tri-powers.
DAG#213 here: http://coatingsystems.thomasnet.com/...g-213?&seo=110 here's a pdf from the original supplier I believe: http://www.laddresearch.com/SpecSheets/LaddDAG213.pdf Here's maybe some "similar" products that might accomplish the function: http://coatingsystems.thomasnet.com/...n-2?&forward=1 Last edited by WVZR-1; 10-17-2009 at 06:34 PM. |

See but even those websites say "Dry film" which is what is available everywhere. Will it work! I don't know. I figured by now some of the ZR-1 eggheads would have chimed in by now.

Re: The search for DAG.
The "catch" is the "carrier" which I believe the DAG213 is bonded in an epoxy resin and after application I'm assuming it's "cured" by heat! I doubt an "air dry" would accomplish the cure but if you look at the pdf they mention a flash time between the applications to build the film thickness!
I've a friend who builds/restores Pontiac tri-powers and he might well know more about the product. I've never asked!! |

Re: The search for DAG.
See now I just started the car cold and it's idling at 850rpm's but knowing aluminum like I do, when the engine heats up those bores will get bigger by at least .0015 which is probably why this stuff was used. It probably not only acts as a seal but ads a cushion which works even when the bores expand.
