Drag Racing at BG

$1500 is a little pricey. Realistically with 3 hrs of track time we could easily have 30 cars running. It would be great if the Registry would underwrite a little of this so that those who say they don't know how to drag race could be encouraged to participate. This is, and should be, a low pressure, fun opportunity to see what your car can do. The more participation we can get, the better.

Frank you can count me in. I agree with you however-I'm not liking the lack of support from our Registry board.

Actually, I think that the registry is doing fine on this one with their posture.

There is a finite amount of time, energy and money available to all the officers to do this stuff and for the time in Kentucky so the volunteer effort seems sensible enough for those who do want to drag race their Z's.

Everyone who owns one of these cars has their own reasons for enjoying them and while we all appreciate what the other is doing it doesn't mean that we want to do it ourselves. In my case I can speak to the point that watching Pete's car and other Z's drag is interesting but it is not an interest that I am willing to commit time, attention, resources and wear and tear on the car to just speaking for myself.

If you asked me what I'd like it would be a 150 mile ride on twisty roads full of people who enjoy doing that with the Z's, maybe even a time trial. For whatever it's worth if I were going to drag race the whole idea of a quarter mile seems like insufficient for these cars. The 1/2 mile drags starting to proliferate seem to make more sense and even more some of the longer runs like a mile in conjunction with the Big Bend Open Road Race make even more sense for these cars to show all their stuff, not just short runs from a line acceleration.

I think it's fantastic for those who enjoy drag racing but to me it's just one of the various slices of what we can do with these fantastic cars and one that does not necessarily resonate with everyone. If there were enough interest then more cars attending would have signed up which is a fair indicator of the level of interest among those attending. It would be fun to watch a couple 415's run for me but I've seen the Youtubes of Pete's and some others and think those 11+ second runs are terrific.

Now, a 150 mile time trial road race over interesting roads or attending the pre drive through the Smokies if I were coming from the west, now that's fun to me.

To each his own is my response and the club can't support every item in my view so they are doing fine with the judgment on funding.

Heck, I think it would be neat to drive the Fort Stockton Firestone test track as a group for ten or twenty laps some time if Bridgestone would let us to re create part of the March, 1990 175.885 mile drive but I know right now I'd never ship my car that far to do it...just an interesting idea with lots of barriers preventing it.

Lots of ways to use these guys.

While I don't drag race, I do like to see the enjoyment that others get from it. It would be a shame for us at the event to miss out on the action. It's one of the few times that members get to meet and create memories.

Sure I enjoy being part of the "group" with my annual $35. But besides the T-shirt, sticker, card, and a few beers at the hotel, I'd really like to see us support the Drag Race event.

I'd also support a run at Ft. Stockton!!

i'm not even going and have no problem wiht my 35$ getting spent to rent the track. we've always had drag racing at bg...no reason not to have it now. I still remembering John Lingenfelter hooning Norms 368 TT down the track

Holy crap you guys are harsh.

The club is trying to protect the club if the club pays they are responsible even if we sign wavers i'm sure some hot shot attorney can find some loop hole to sue the club and then no more club.
As most of you know we are a sue happy country filled with sue happy attorneys.


The club never payed for drags it was always one club member the racers would pay back at BG.
This is nothing new.
So don't be so hard on the club.

Hope you guys don't expect fireworks at the drags i will be there with street tires and no trailer so like Frank said just do some MPH passes
i could do some killer burnouts,i also need the car to bring me back home.

I think the participants should pay, not the club. But a good compromise may be that the club pay for the safety equipment, track prep, etc, etc... What was the difference, $1000?

I don't know why we'd even want to do it without timing lights, track prep and safety equipment.
