Re: Which Performance Chip do you have?
i did my own on all my Zee's. also did Craigs427 for him as well. work good. loosely based off Mark's. really only so much one can to do these especially if the engines' stock. all the R&D has long been done. one thing i do different than most is i stagger when the cooling fans come on by 5°. not as much draw on the electrical system all at one time. not right or wrong but just made sense to me to do it that way for obvious reason.

Re: Which Performance Chip do you have?
Just got my Haibeck reprogramed prom back. So far its just as he said it would be. I see a much smoother off idle throttle response & an overall better functioning engine. The power always on is something I thought I wouldnt really like, but I do. The running temps are about 10-15* cooler and the knock is gone under throttle when I take off and the engine is hot. Funny thing is I thought I heard it ping a bit in second under harder than normal acceleration the other day. I am going to fill up with a different brand of premium next time and see how it does.
Does adding over the counter fuel octane booster make a difference? Anyone use a product like 104+ or similar? Comment on what you used & like.

I am sure he was just busy because he has an excellent reputation. I will try again down the road.

Re: Which Performance Chip do you have?
But will the stock chip solve the 1st. gear to 4th problem? What is a good source?

Re: Which Performance Chip do you have?
yes,it does cancel the 1-4 shift idiocy, and lowers underhood temperature, resulting in slightly more power..it also improves the idle quality...any gm dealer should be able to order it for you...i dont know the part number, but the description should say AYBK,or something similar, and was part of a service bulletin issued from gm,for customers complaining about bad idle and lack of power when hot..im no zr-1 guru, but it did make my car happy

The only way to address the 1 4 thing is to disconnect the wires from the sensor or have a tuner disable it in the calibration, same with the fan on temps. Tyler

Re: Which Performance Chip do you have?
i bought this improved calibration after reading mark haybeck`s site...my car`s 1-4 shift was disabled after installing the new calibration.as mark said it would..you can read the results on mark`s site under calibration for 1990..imo,its the best bang for the buck, for a stocker....mark also said 10%more torque because of more consistent underhood temperature, although i never mentionned the fans...jmo,anyway

So buying a AYBK chip/calibration from a dealer will NOT eliminate the skip shift. Marcs calibration is an excellent choice. Tyler

Many probably read your post as buying the stock factory replacement calibration. In which case, as Tyler said, the 1-4 would not be disabled, nor would any appreciable change be made to the fan on temps. Any chip purchased from a GM dealer would not have the "enhancements" which Marc provides. Although he starts with the most recent GM service replacement cal, he does make several changes, as noted on his website. Todd |
