Thanks

Ressurection.

Did you have the car tested? What was the outcome? DEQ is starting an emissions testing program here and I will need to have cats installed I'm pretty sure.

Thanks

Yes I did and it failed miserably we use the IM-240 test out here not just a sniffer so a moron driving the car that cant shift can really tube the test. I Ended up registering the car at my house up in Flagstaff so problem resolved for now. I went with the MFs but I'm not sold the RTs will solve the problem. My engine has a lot of miles on it now so im sure that is part of the problem as well. At least I am running cats so I dont feel like a gross polluter

Just a fwiw on the low restriction/high performance cats.

I think part of the issue could be that the MF's or R/T's or any other of those type cat do not hold enough heat to work properly. They are made of a s/s alloy mostly and not just plain old steel. Stainless transfers heat too quickly vs aluminum/ steel alloy like the OEM cats.

I had an e-mail conversation with two different "coating" houses, and they both made the suggestion of coating the outside of low restriction/high performance cats with the same stuff that is used to coat the headers for thermal retention. Obviously, this conversation took place with respect to having headers and a smog legal exhaust system that would pass the tail pipe emissions limits.

Just thought I'd throw that out for your consideration.

I believe this is a strong possibility Tom. I deliberately reved the dog snot out of my car for about 30 mins to make sure she was good and hot and the numbers improved in the emissions test. Still did not pass. They are so close to the head pipes of the headers that I can?t believe they don?t get hot enough. But it?s a possibility

You will have trouble passing the IM240 test with factory manifolds as well.

I just rolled a 94 through emissions up in Washington with the Magnaflow cats and had no issues. Another 368 as well. The cats are up to snuff, just the ZR-1 was never designed for the 240 test.
