Re: WANTED: Cam position sensor for LT5
The alternative cam position sensor arrived today. Had to make some modification to it so it would fit in cylinder head in place of the OEM stock sensor. Here it is beneath the OEM sensor:
Fit was identical to the OEM sensor. Same 1mm camshaft reluctor wheel clearance as with the OEM sensor. Did some bench testing by installing in a head and turning the cam by hand and it generated the same signal output as the OEM sensor. Facing slot Facing wheel Looking very promising so far. Next up full scale testing in the car.

Re: WANTED: Cam position sensor for LT5
Phil, Once again to the rescue of the LT5. Highly interested in the end result so I may replace the sensor in my LT5 while it's out of the car and prior to installing the cam covers.

Re: WANTED: Cam position sensor for LT5
Installed the alternative camshaft position sensor on my 94 Z this afternoon and it performed perfectly during garage running tests. Even disconnected the signal wire which immediately triggered code 31 cam sensor failure. Reconnected and all was fine again. Rainy weather here prevented a more thorough road test however, from what I've seen thus far I'm confident it will perform just as well as the OEM sensor.

Re: WANTED: Cam position sensor for LT5
Fantastic job, Phil!
So, which model is this sensor originally listed for? Another GM model? |

Re: WANTED: Cam position sensor for LT5
It’s an generic aftermarket piece I found with a form close enough for replacing the OEM sensor.
Modifications: • Machined spacer ring for adapting the sensor to the cylinder head mounting bore location. • Correct size O-ring • Machining O-ring groove • Fabing up cable plug end • Installing split wiring conduit
