Marc does amazing things. He also just got 543 crank HP from a 368 package for a local Chicago guy named Jay. Very nice. Congrats on your results.....you will have a lot of fun (and reliability) from Marc's work.

I believe Paul is just having Marc do the tune. Paul did his own porting and assembly.

Those numbers are really stout for a 350, is it a stock flywheel?

Fidanza FW.

Pete sent the heads off for valve work (the impitus for this whole fiasco in the first place - a bad exhaust valve), and did the head dis/re-assembly (twice) and timed the cams. At Marc's recommendation I had the heads milled .020 to offset the loss of compression due to the relief work which netted me (he says) about +0.5 point (11.5 total) compression.

Once the motor was reassembled, it went to Marc for final fuel mapping and spark calibration. According to Marc, the initial ("out of the box" as he put it) produced about 422 at the fW. After trimming and playing with the advance, the process evolved to the final number. That's where the final numbers came from - Marc's dyno tuning session.

This build has many fathers, you might say! I feel blessed to have so much ZR-1 tallent - the FBI group at large - all within 1-1/2 hours drive from my house. (Marc's shop is about 10 minutes from my office at work, and Pete's is about 40 minutes away. How convEEEEEEEnient!)

Brother P,

Yeah, I hear you on the drama. Mine is pretty close to yours in some respects other than the SGC Stage I camshafts. I'm very curious to know and I just don't have the liberty of a dyno tune from a pro here in Hawaii and just mail order tuning from two of the tuners in our community. I don't know if anyone has tried tunercat but my friend was showing me it and it might worth venturing into since I don't have the luxury of any help.

Hi Craig,

Thank you for your e-mail regarding the C.A.T.S. Tuner program.

We do support your 1990 ZR-1 with our software. To tune your vehicle, you'll need the Tuner program ($69.95) and the $8E ECM Definition File ($19.95).

In addition to the above software, you'll also need an EPROM programmer to read and reprogram the EPROM in the ECM to install your modified tune. Virtually any EPROM programmer will work with the EPROMs used in these ECMs. If you don't already have an EPROM programmer you might want to consider our OBD1-Tune-8E kit which includes everything you'll need to tune your car including the Tuner program, $8E ECM Definition File, Burn2 Programmer, Memory adapters and Flash chip.

We also offer the OBD1-Pro-Tune-8E kit which includes everything in the standard kit plus a USB/ALDL-1 cable kit and the DataMaster data logging program.

If you have any other questions, or would like additional information, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Best regards,
TC

Jeff,

As an FYI, if you have a def file from TC or TPro, it can be converted to work with the other bin editor by dragging onto that particular application. No need to convert.

I'm just now reading this post but all I have to say is W O W!!! Very impressive! Especially considering you don't have a stroker.

I wonder if Corey Henderson can achieve similar results - considering his shop is about 4 hours away from me. It seems that one of the biggest differences was the tuning on the dyno.

Have you taken it to the track yet????

Made just one pass before that leeeetle oil leak I couldn't find until then, suddenly became a not-so-little leak. The low oil pressure switch gave out and oil shot all over the headers.

Traction is going to be the next challenge, along with re-setting my rev limiter to 7500 ish(?), and maybe some gears. She slipped most of the way thru first, and I hit the rev limiter before I could react to the shift light. Second gear slipped most of the way thru the tach, and I hit the rev limiter again in 3rd at about 200 feet shy of the trap.

So, I've got some work to do before next season: Tires and rev limiter re-set at least. I console myself by remembering that in spite of everything that went wrong, it ran a 12.6 at 117.x mph. She's got the potential. Just have to dig it out now.
