tips on pulling cam covers?

I went to Amsoil in my boat after years of using Valv 50 Racing oil and saw a big diff in lower temps and quicker recovery on the psi gauge after a hard run with the blower motor. My buddy saw a diff the same way with the Mobil synth he was running also.

No doubt about it the Amsoil is the good stuff but at 2 to 3 times the price it should be!

What price glory for the high rev's monster HP motors.

Albert J. Amatuzio, President and CEO of AMSOIL Inc., recently announced that the phrase "First in Synthetics" is now part of the AMSOIL registered trademark. No other oil company in the world can claim to be first.

Mr. Amatuzio told an interesting story as to how this came about. AMSOIL applied to have this statement registered and was told that they must prove to the trademark officials, by documentation, that AMSOIL Synthetic Oil was the first, historically. However, they also said that by claiming to be first, we were insinuating we were the best (or #1/first) from a quality or performance standpoint.

So AMSOIL had to convince them that they had the best product to also claim to be first. AMSOIL proceeded to present comparison documentation and test results backing up the claim that AMSOIL was also the best. Yes! The trademark officials accepted the documentation to allow AMSOIL to use "first" in their trademark.

But the process was not through. The procedure now required the government to notify all other oil manufacturers that would be impacted by the decision, so they would have input before this decision would be official. They were notified in writing and given 90 days to object, comment or respond. The 90 days elapsed without a peep!

AMSOIL not only convinced the trademark office that AMSOIL Synthetic Oil was the first historically, but also convinced them that AMSOIL is the first in quality, and no other competitor objected!

In fact, Mr. A.J. Amatuzio, founder, President and CEO of AMSOIL states that he often hears other companies ad slogans stating that their products are the best. They are not. Mobil 1 has run the tag line for their advertising "nothing outperforms Mobil 1". A.J. Amatuzio states that he knows a company that does make products that outperform Mobil 1. "And you know which company that is. Mobil makes a very good oil, but I am here to tell you that that it does not outperform AMSOIL Synthetic Motor Oils. They can come out with advertising buzz words to market their oils, but in the final analysis, buzz words don't add one thing to their products performance. The only reason that AMSOIL has continued to grow and prosper competing with large corporations like Mobil is that AMSOIL products have consistently performed better

has anybody heard anything about the new castrol syn. that is out .its pricy for sure 35.00 for a 5 qt . they say its 4-5 times better than anything . i use amsoil myself .but was just curious .

I think so Pete my boat picked up 50 more rpm at FT. from 5100 to 5150.

In the fall cool temps I could get 5150 but not in the hot summer the Amsoil got 5150 in the summer and 5175 in the fall.

More RPM's = More Speed = More Power Right???

it would be cool to do a "back to back" dyno test. run the mobil or other oils, drain it, run again with amsoil on the same dyno.

this would be great to do at our "dyno days"

a 2 hour plus would be enough of a "drain" to get the old stuff out (lots stays in the oil cooler anyway ya know)

I'd be up for trying this. there is no doubt the amsoil stuff is great, but being that I'm a cheap b@st@rd I still get the mobil extended which does have more zinc at wally word for 25 a jug

3 quarts of the "good stuff" costs more than that!

but sheesh, my engine cost 30k, so it's probably a very smart move!

I have always used regular oil now i will be using Amsoil with ZDDP Additive.
I will Dyno i hope it's true and not a myth.

CorvZ061 wanted me to tell everyone he is back down in Texas with his girlfriend again and will not be back until July to work on the Z.

He will be in Georgia Mar 11-20 and ~~~ "i'll probably just put the cam covers back on and leave it buttoned back up." until he returns for good in July.

His gal got lonely and really missed him so he is going to stay in Texas with her until the school year is over and then they will both move up to Georgia together.

Update on the car, I told Bryan the story on the car, don't know if he has posted or not? But the car is gone, the LT5 let loose turning around 7k, was out playing around with a built fox body Mustang, got to the top of 3rd, and went to shift and heard a lourd bang and saw a shower of sparks pouring out from behind the car, the cams were ok when I looked before that. after selling the car, the new owner got back to me and told me that it appears the wrist pin in one of the cylinders failed and sent the rod through the block. It was ugly. I asked him to take pictures and send me so I could post up, but he never got back to me with them. I will have another when finances allow. But for now I have a C5Z for daily purposes, it's about to be sold though, lost job and can't find another one. It's hard for younger people these days, even if you know the right people.

How many miles on the Z when it popped?
