Re: ZF Transmission stopped working

I talked to the shop again and this is what they suspect. The engine rear main seal had been leaking for a awhile but wasn't in any large quantity. I saw some drops on the floor but nothing that would cause any panic. While I was driving it to Lexington, KY for a car show, the rear main seal gave way and soaked the clutch and, apparently, that caused a cascade failure of components. They found fibrous material mixed in with the hydraulic fluid of the slave cylinder. He told me that, I'm guessing, that the release bearing came out. The bottom line is that the transmission is good. Its the clutch system that failed. I have pics. I will be writing this up for the HOTB. Roy
