Re: Toyo vs. Nitto
I like the 555 G2s as well. I'm an old fart but still like to play a bit and the 91 sticks really well when coming out of a corner under hard acceleration. The wife is still playing around a bit in her 90. We put the same tires on hers. She will get some time under her belt soon as the weather warms a bit.
The 91 launches well at reasonable RPM and the nice part is the tires take the hwy. really well and are quiet at any speed you really care to drive. Your pricing is good. And as is generally the case, I paid a bit more, but nothing outrageous. All this for about half of what you could spend on other tires. |

Re: Toyo vs. Nitto
I'm surprised nobody has the Nitto NT-01s mounted for comparison. I have used them on a C5 Z06 and also on the ZR-1. In comparison I've used slicks on the track, Toyo R888's and the old BFGs.
You shouldn't compare the Toyo R888 to the NT-05, the NT-01 is correct tire to compare. The NT-01 is a very capable track tire, and you can't find better traction than on a street tire as long as its dry and warm out. I generally don't have the ZR-1 out unless its dry, so I don't worry about it. The R888 and Nitto NT-01 are very similar. Both have outstanding grip. Both are a very capable track / autocross tire. "Almost" as good as slicks, and wear much better. The downside to the R888 and NT-01 compared with other street tires is you will get less mileage from them. Probably half of a tire with a harder compound like the Goodyears or Michelin tires. I think most people would recommend the R888's or NT-01 if you plan to autocross or do track days and don't want to get a second set of rims and special tires. For me, I like the phenomenal grip and don't mind the lower life as I don't put a ton of miles on the car anyway. I figure by the time the tires are getting a few years on them and aren't as soft anymore, I'll have them worn out.

Re: Toyo vs. Nitto
Any info on the actual widths of these tires? I know the Goodyears are wide and the Sumitomos are skinny, but I thought I heard the Nittos were not as wide as the Goodyears. How about the Toyos? How do they compare width-wise to the Goodyears? I currently have old BFGs that are plenty wide and they need to be replaced due to age. Thanks.

Re: Toyo vs. Nitto
I've had these Toyo R888's on the car for 1 1/2 years, 3K mi. I'd get a shot of the wear, but the car is in the shop at the moment.
They stick like glue in the dry, and just OK in the wet. I'm very happy with them so far. Even as soft as they are, they'll probably age out before they wear out. As little as most ZR-1's get driven, I think these are the ideal tires for the car. I think expensive, long wearing , all weather tires are a waste of money on these cars.

Re: Toyo vs. Nitto
Road noise? My car has headers, no cats, and a 3" B&B system. So, I have no idea.

Re: Toyo vs. Nitto
Same goes for me -- I don't drive mine in the rain and I'm replacing my tires only due to age. I don't mind fast wear -- may actually make me feel I'm getting something for my money!

Re: Toyo vs. Nitto
Nitto 555`s on the rear. No sidewall strength. I wouldn`t shed a tear if a railroad spike got both of them tomorrow.
