I guess I must be a VW Bug fan then. My Hurst looks great, IMO. No reverse lockout either.

My interior is black and I have have been tossing back and forth to keep the stock shift knob on the Hurst short shifter or go with a black or white Hurst knob. Your Hurst knob looks great. So now it is to use the black or white with my black interior?

The Hurst "ball knob" has a really good feel to it, IMO. Some members here have the polished Hurst "T" handle. It looks and feels good as well.

I guess I will ask Santa for a new shifter. I tried to tighten the small screw, it helped a little but it still rattles too much for me. Again I ask, is it complicated to swap shifters? Can it be done with the trans in the car? This iOS a mod I would like to do but there is no one in SLC to help me if I get stuck.

I think my new Hurst short shifter will be installed this weekend if WAZOO has time in the schedule. My understanding is that it can be done with the trans in the car and it takes a couple of hours. Will take and post photos to help show the work involved.

I had Marc install a Hurst shifter in my 95 this past summer as I had done on my 93 many years ago. It has the stock knob on it and looks completely stock, which I like. I originally switched because when I had a CD in the player and it was ejected and sticking out, I would hit it shifting into third gear and push it back in. Mostly I like the short throw. It is more mechanical sounding than the stock shifter because it lacks a rubber bushing that the stock one has. Overall I am glad I did it again. --Bob

Switch over to the crash through 95' shifter. I think BB can hook you up. You might need the entire transmission though.

seems like an extreme, possibly $3000, fix to a $20 problem

Had WAZOO install the new Hurst Billet Plus short shifter. I kept the stock shift knob for now (photo of the finished product). Feels and sounds great. Makes a clicking noise when banging through the gears and very positive shift. Now no more reverse lock out.
Thanks Jim!

Some reverse lift rings fit loose on the shifter shaft. Sometimes the ring vibrates on the shaft. In this situation the driver will notice that if the lift ring is just touched with one finger the noise will stop.

The solution is to bend the reverse lockout rod so that it is not centered and floating on the shifter shaft. To do this, remove the reverse lockout lift ring. Look down the shifter shaft and view the reverse lockout rod. Use a screw driver to bend the rod slightly so that is it no longer centered in the shifter shaft. Reassemble the reverse lockout lift ring. The slight misalignment of the reverse lockout rod will cause a slight thrust against the side of the lift ring so that it can't move to the side and rattle.

Interestingly after I doing this for years I recently found the procedure listed in the '94 GM service manual. It's on page 10-1A-26. GM say's if tightening the hex screw does not help, bend the rod. You know your going to have problems with noise and rattles when the car manufacturer has a chapter in the service manual named Noise Reduction. They list 97 common '90 to '95 Corvette noises and how to fix them. Most of the fixes were incorporated into the '94 and '95 cars. That's why I think that the '95 has the most solid feeling when driven on a rough road.

If you find that the 1.5 mm drive hex screw in the lift ring is stripped, GM still supplies the lift ring.
