Bob, your friend is welcome as are you.
I don't know the end time, but however long the jobs take. If we get done early, I have picked a nice local area cruise to do some road testing. Lunch will probably be pizza. Some times we go out for dinner afterwards. But the schedule is very flexible. People come and go as necessary. Even if you aren't in need of maintenance right now, come on by to see a fine gathering of ZR-1's Phone number at the garage is 443-244-1347. Call or email if you need directions. If you get lost we will send out a ZR-1 search party for you! Jim

Jim, is the heater in good working order?
Forecast in the morning calls for 20 degrees F with 24 mph NW winds. I'm sure David would appreciate it if the garage was nice and toasty when he rolls in at 10:00. |

Jim, I've got to modify my plans. My brother has a tree in his back yard that the wind tore up last night. I haven't seen it yet but he needs a chain saw and some help. I'm heading over to his place now. If it turns out not to be too big of a deal, I'll be over later...

Thanks to everyone for coming out on such a cold day and helping out. When I went out to the garage at 0730, it was 17 degrees outside. With the heaters running we got the garage up to 56 degrees.
We had nine people join in the fun. Great time. It was nice to have Ricky come all the way from NJ just to hang out with us. Or maybe he just wanted to see what a ZR-1 looks like since he has had his in the shop so long. Yun (SecondChance) got his right front control arm replaced as well as replacing all four shocks. We were not as successful with Rich's water pump. Removal went OK once we found that one last bolt that attaches to the TOP of the water pump: But then we realized that the replacement water pump was not going to work because the impeller sticks out too far towards the engine. Even before we installed any bolts, we noted that there was contact between the impeller and the block. Maybe Rich can give more details about the replacement pump. Thanks Phill for the coffee run. Thanks Ricky and David for the pizza. And thanks Lyndi for the Mac & Cheese. The beer was cold and the friendship was wonderful. Jim |

Hey, no problem.
Here is the report: 1. Metal to metal noise when coming to stop has been eradicated. 2. Slight wandering also has been exorcized. 3. Car no longer bottoms out over speed bumps and definately feels more stable at high speed. However, steering wheel is a little off center. New upper "A" arm seems to have affected wheel alignment. I might pull one skinny shim towards the back, at least, until I replace front tires. It was great to see old friends and meet new (you Aurora40 and your friend). Well "seeing you" is more appropriate since I have been exchanging posts with you. Rich. NOS water pump for $274! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/90-91...Q5fAccessories Also, Jim, please let Mrs. Voter know that I appreciated her mac and cheese! |

Thanks to everyone for their help. My worst fear was realized when we went to install the new pump. When we put the new pump in place the impleller was firmly seated against the block and we had about 1/8 inch of a gap between the pump housing and the block. No gasket in the world would have taken up that gap. Also, the mating surface of the new pump wasn't even machined as the orginal pump was. Had to leave my car at Jim's until I can track down a new pump. Well, it was a live and learn for me today. Sorry I tied up the lift guys Anyway here are some pics.
Rich
