My experience was with removing and replacing the whole motor/mast assembly on a non-ZR-1, it's good to know that mast replacement is an up top procedure only.

The replacement antenna is installed. I decided to go with a new unit vs. remasting the old unit. The old motor was still working but consdering the force that broke the antenna mast in the first place I decided to keep the old as a spare. The replacement unit out the box from MADVET was not 100% functional as it would not fully extend at the 3rd and 4th extensions. So.... you guessed it I had to remast the new motor.
Luckily thanks to Jeffvette I had the masting kit on hand and after talking to MADVET today on the phone they are sending me a replacement mast kit. The job can indeed be done on your back on the underside of the ZR-1 with the major issues to the install being the pluging in of the antenna cable and the powercable to the antenna relay (tight cramped fit). The good news story is I tested the new motor before doing the reinstall which saved me time before mounting it up again. I highly reccommend testing for function before replacing the antenna. Will save you at least 30 mins of reinstalling.
