I must admit, sitting in a lawn chair at a car show leaves alot
to be desired. My first couple I cleaned and waxed

then I polished and buffed

And i didn't win diddly ****...anwsered a bunch of moronic questions
got hot and miserable, and swore i'd never do another.

THEN...i attended a show, where, the enthusiast's KNEW what a ZR1
was all about, they took pic's
asked the right type of questions, and the birds started to sing,

the
sun came out, and i won 1st place in the C4 category.
some days, it's good to be the king.

Count me in as not a show fan. Even huge ones like Carlisle, after about an hour I am getting all ancy and just want to gtf out of there. The only part I enjoy is meeting up with other Z owners, but I'd much rather meet up with them at a drag strip or something where the cars will be moving.

I hear you Bob. I've never had more fun with my car than at the VIR HPDE this year. A lot of people came up to see the car there. Of course, it was almost the oldest car there and on the track too!

I have a blast at carlisle but I admit I spend most of my time over in the parts section and in the forsale section, plus the bullshiting and walking around is fun.

Im not there for the show I have driven up there twice and both times I dont even think I washed the car to tell the truth paint all faded and busted up haha

not a show car at all

I remember when the ZR-1 came out, the attention at shows was unreal. Even into the late 90's.

Alot of first time Corvette buyers bought into C5's and C6's. They know very little of C4's. As a matter of fact, if you don't have your hood up at a show, most won't even walk down the aisle to glance at your car.

Over the years I've noticed there are different types of people at shows:

1) :-(**|=Guys who tell you about the special Corvette they had that was a one off by GM and how it is better then what you own.
2) Lots of old men wearing Corvette sneakers.
3) Guys who need their ego fed and have tons of Bling.
4) Guys who have no clue about the real purpose of a Car Show.
5) Cool Car Enthusiasts

You go because of 5)

I used to show my Corvette at least twice a year. Now I've shown it twice in the last 5 years. I have a decent amount of trophies and don't need anymore. Shows are very political and you know whether or not you have a nice Corvette, you don't need a judge to tell you that. Plus, the general methods of car shows are screwed up anyway. If your ZR-1 has 5,000 miles on it and its never driven, how is a guy with 60,000 miles going compete against that? I think that mileage should be considered when judging cars.

Shows are about fun, networking and meeting up with friends and making new friends. Shows are not fun on hot days and best in the spring and fall.
You will find that what makes shows worthwhile is the quality time with your friends or the new friends you meet. At every show, there will typically be one or two guys who really appreciate the car and know what the car represents. I can never see myself bringing my C5 to a show.

Your car is really sharp by the way. It's time will come soon enough!

Here are a few guys eyeing the Lt5 in 2005.

Well between the guy with the man boob's on the left and the beer gut on the right, your car was in danger of being crushed and turned into banana pudding.

I use to go to car shows, but that was only to get away from the ex-wife for the day The hot sun suxs, dogs peeing on my rims and some guy dripping his icecream cone all over my car, yup real fun

Also, who needs a plastic trophy or plaque, how about a case of oil or something car related

Funny, I would take a case of Budwieser instead of the trophy. I go to the shows to check out the women and talk cars and look at cars in that order.

JT,

Its the younger kids, even ricers, that have a respect for our cars. I recently took my Z06 wheels to a tire shop for disposal. Wheels were wrecked. The kid there asked what car they came off of and I said my
ZR-1. He extended his hand to shake mine. I told him that it was a 92,
and he said "It doesn't matter what year it is, its a ZR-1". Cool.
